On September 21, 2010 Parmalee was held up after a concert at a club in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Drummer Scott Thomas engaged in a shoot out and shot and killed one of the two robbers. Scott was shot three times, with one bullet hitting his femoral artery. He was hospitalized for thirty-five days, 10 of which he spent in a coma. At one point he was given only a 5% chance of recovery. On July 12, 2011 a judge sentenced the robber to two decades in prison. All four members of the band were in the courtroom for the verdict.
