First song that comes to mind is Sufjan StevensCasimir Pulaski Day. An amazing song about a teenager’s first experience with death, and the crisis of faith that ensues.

Here’s some that come to mind:

Silverstein – “In Memory of…” is about the lead singer’s younger cousin (only 24) who was killed in a snow mobile accident.

Silverstein – “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow” is about Bayside’s drummer who died in a car crash while Silverstein & Bayside were on tour.

Senses Fail – “Steven”: This song is about the band’s high school friend who passed away.

+44 – “No It Isn’t”: This song is really about the death of Mark Hoppus' former band (at the time), Blink-182. Mark Hoppus & Travis Barker started +44 when Blink-182 first broke up. Pretty sick song.

Pretty much anything from The Black Parade. Great album, actually meant to be a concept album about death. Some favorites are…

  1. Cancer by My Chemical Romance

  2. Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance

I really like King Park by La Dispute. It’s based off a real life gang related shooting that killed a young man in LD’s hometown. The song goes on to detail the immediate reaction of the community, the tremors that shake the family’s memories, and the internal moral struggle of the shooter, which eventually ends in his inferred suicide.

Another good one is the Devil in my Bloodstream by The Wonder Years.Written from the perspective of their lead singer, the lyrics deal with the protagonist’s fear of succumbing to what he sees as hereditary depression and the psychological downfall it causes. The entire track touches on such poignant issues as war, PTSD, and suicide, showing a depth that is not commonly expounded in the pop-punk genre

There is also,(obviously) “Sunday Morning, At a Funeral” also by La Dispute, which doesn’t have a transcription on here yet.

A lot of the songs on Wild Life are based off the incident detailed in King Park following the family’s, (especially the mother’s) coping with the loss of a loved one
