What Is The Best Melanie Martinez Song?
Lemme know! She is my favorite artist and my favorite song by her is “WOMB”. If you would like to vote
I’m a hip-hop head, but I like some occasional pop music. And I’m not usually a fan of male artists/bands but I’m surprised every once in a while like Years and Years.
So can you guy recommend me some female bands/artist’s that I can get into.
Who I listen to in the past few years:
Tove Lo – Queen Of the Clouds
Taylor Swift – 1989 (I don’t like Red or Country Taylor though)
Lorde – Pure Heroine
Zella Day – Kicker
Florence and the Machine – How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
Purity Ring – Another Eternity
Chvrches – The Bones of What You Believe
Some people I’ve checked out and liked their EP’s:
Melanie Martinez
Halsey
Ryn Weaver
Help please: @tag-wall
tbh I prefer female vocalists too.
Samsaya, Alessia Cara, Foxes, Odessa, Alex Winston, Bea Miller, Charli XCX, Made In Heights, Tori Kelly, Denai Moore, San Fermin, Aurora, Alina Baraz, Phoebe Ryan.
I’ve checked out Alessia Cara, Odessa, Bea Miller, and Phoebe Ryan and liked them.
Charli XCX I don’t really like, and I can’t mess with Tori Kelly.
I’ll definitely check out the others. Any songs you’d mention to go along?
Some things you can start out with:
- Samsaya – “The Beginning At The End”
- Foxes – “Holding Onto Heaven”
- Denai Moore – “Blame”
- Aurora – “Runaway”
- San Fermin – “Jackrabbit”
Oh Wonder are a british duo (female and male) that have been releasing a single per month for the past year or so and I haven’t listened to a bad song yet
Here’s a playlist of their songs, I highly recommend them tbh
Some other things with female vocalists I also recommend:
Purity Ring – Shrines
If you liked Another Eternity you are probably gonna like their debut album
Song you should check out:
London Grammar – If You Wait
Dope band with a dope sound and a really dope Kavinsky cover
Song you should check out:
London Grammar – Wasting My Young Years
Vallis Alps – Vallis Alps
They’re an electronic duo with only an EP out but it’s already enough to know they’re dope
Song you should check out:
Banks – Goddess
Female singer whose production has some strong synths
Song you should check out:
Sylvan Esso – Sylvan Esso
Electronic-Pop duo with a female singer and some good vibes
Song you should check out:
Lana del Rey – Born to Die & Ultraviolence
them feels tho
Also, she has production from Emile Haynie, the dude that produced a lot of Kid Cudi’s greatest hits and co-produced Kanye’s Runaway
I think you should check out both albums
Song you should check out:
The xx – xx & Coexist
British trio with two dope albums
Also, Jamie xx from the band has a standalone album and it’s good as well
Song you should check out:
Torres – Sprinter
She recently released one of my favorites albums this year tbh
Song you should check out:
Alvvays – Alvvays
Canadian dreampop (according to last.fm) band that came through with a seriously good album last year
Song you should check out:
Yoo, I listened to Sprinter today, and it was so good. I trust your recommendations tbh so I will try to check out the rest on your list as well.

Also Paramore.
I forgot to mention I like Paramore. I haven’t listened to Flyleaf since they changed leads. I’ll be sure to check it out.

Janine And The Mixtape
https://soundcloud.com/janineandthemixtape/hold-me-1
She has two EP’s out, worth checking out.
I would honestly check out Miley’s “Bangerz” album. It’s got some great tracks on it. “Love Money Party (feat. Big Sean),” “Maybe You’re Right,” and “Rooting For My Baby” are all great songs to give a listen to from it.
Nadia Oh’s 2011 album “Colours” is amazing. It’s moombahton/pop.

Hilary Duff – “Breathe In, Breathe Out” (2015)
Lily Allen – “Sheezus” (2014)

CO-SIGN big time on Kate Bush! I am a huge fan of hers. One of her albums ended up #1 om my list of favorite albums ever.
The user turnout on this thread is woah…I will give this discussion a blanket cosign.
Good thing I know a few more female pop vocalists (or acts with female vocalists), along with one of their standout tracks. These are the ones that haven’t been mentioned yet:
Highly recommend:
- MS MR: The most F+TMish of the list. Electro-baroque with macabre lyrics, although their sophomore record is more sleek pop. – Fantasy
- Elliphant: Scandinavian artist with a reggae inflection. Associated with Major Lazer and MO. – One More
- Susanne Sundfør: Another F+TMish artist whose Scandinavian. More orchestral electro pop. – Fade Away
- Marian Hill: Minimalist electro-R&B that’s sexy. – Lips
- Kate Boy: Lyrics are rough, but their production’s lovely. – Northern Lights
- Kerli: Started with macabre pop, did a straight electro-pop album, and now she’s in label limbo. – Walking On Air
- MO been mentioned yet? Yet another Scandinavian singer. Best known for her feature in recent Major Lazer hit “Lean On”, but her debut album’s sublime.
(If you want male singers that are up Florence and the Machine’s alley: Sir Sly and Glass Animals. Both are on my 2014 AOTY list, and I did a write-up for the latter for Rock Genius' ranking.)
More rock female singers:
- St. Vincent – Rattlesnake
- Against Me! – Transgender Dysphoria Blues
- Elle King [Countryish] – Ex’s and Oh’s
Acts to Watch:
- HOLYCHILD: Brat pop. That is all. – Money All Around
- Kiiara: Only two songs out, but she’s minimalist electro-pop with chopped vocal sampling and a hip-hop flair. – Gold
- HANA: Chill pop. – Avalanche
Interesting:
- Little Boots
- TEEN – Rose 4 u
- SOAK – Sea Creatures
- Genevieve – Aboki Remix
- Meg Myers – Sorry
- Rozzi Crane – Psycho
- Gulsen: It was a strange day when this song topped Pop Genius – Bangır Bangır (şarkı sözleri)
…I got to stop before I go through my entire Spotify library.
Tell me if I should elaborate on any of these.
