Q&A: "Ghost in a Kiss"

Zoom!

Another Q&A installment comin' at ya.

I cracked open a fresh song that doesn’t have any annotations or a song bio, Clams Casino’s track “Ghost in a Kiss” feat. Samuel T. Herring from Future Islands.

My process for this one:

-Continued to refine the 4-5 Q&A model from yesterday’s thread.

-Tried to use a bunch of media and clickables in the Q&A function to give the page some character, as an extension of what I tried out two threads ago.

-Left some unanswered, unpinned questions that I didn’t have the answers to so others with the knowledge can answer them later.

Doing Q&A on this song was particularly challenging, because the song was brand new and there really isn’t much information out about it yet. Also, shout out to whoever jumped on and answered the “Who is Samuel T. Herring?” question so quickly! I think our collab on that question made a really great answer.

What works about these questions, and what doesn’t?
What is the place of media in Q&A? Is it beneficial, or is it too bulky?
What kinds of questions am I missing?

ok this q&a is pretty nice, but even though its good information i still think it would be better suited in annotations so that people can ask real questions in the q&a. but the “what is the video about” question is good, do you have the answers to these questions?

@swinelord What’s an example of a “real question”? Do you mean an organic question that someone else asked? What kind of annotation would the information about Samuel T. Herring fit in, for instance?

do you have the answers to these questions?

Nope! Like I wrote about in the OP, I added those questions so they can be answered when more information comes out about the song, or other people with more knowledge about the song can answer them.

yeah by real questions i just meant ones that were asked by outside people, because we dont know what questions people really have, it’s just kind of us guessing what questions we think they’ll have at this point.

i was thinking that on [Verse 1: Samuel T. Herring] we could annotate it with some info on him, and on the [produced by clams casino] we could have all the other stuff

@Empath On the spirit of the “recommended or similar tracks” question I’d suggest Samuel T. Herring’s collaboration with BADBADNOTGOOD “Time Moves Slow”. I wouldn’t say “Sounds Like” because it’s more about being another non-rap collaboration with producers who are associated with hip-hop, talking about the same kind of sentiment of missing/losing someone. Notice that this BBNG song shows up on Genius as being a collaboration with Sam Herring, so someone looking under Samuel T. Herring is unlikely to find it (if anyone could fix that, it would be great: I don’t know how).

@Wapunguissa That’s a cool suggestion! The recommend songs question in this example is focused on other songs Clams Casino produced, but maybe this is grounds for a second related songs question about songs that Herring featured on as a vocalist.

I also fixed that track—it was because he was listed as “Sam Herring” and not as “Samuel T. Herring.”

@Empath Thank you for fixing that! On other non-Future Islands and non-rap songs Samuel T. Herring collaborated with, the ones worth mentioning and that are on Genius are Gangrene’s “Pay It Cool” feat. Earl Sweatshirt (with Vince Staples on Clams Casino’s album, it may be of interest to those who are into Odd Future) and Du Blonde’s “Mind Is On My Mind”, which is not hip-hop, but might be of interest for Future Islands fans.
