As you may have heard, Chester Bennington of Link Park reportedly committed suicide. A lot of Linkin Park song pages are blowing up on Genius right now as a result. Making sure these pages are pristine is a good way to pay tribute!

Last time this happened with Prodigy, most of the annotations from the songs listed in the OP were removed and now the pages look empty

One question, when we are making annotations or editing them, should we reference to the recent events, or keep it directed to the song?

@jbotting347 In my opinion, we shouldn’t include Chester’s passing in the annotations, as it happened after the songs were released. Including things like his struggles with anxiety or depression could be a good substitute though, as it gets a similar point across. I’m sure staff will have a definitive answer on this though

isn’t updating annotations constantly our priority in this case? i think we should the information about his death whenever it’s needed.

@SpeckHelper that’s what I was thinking. So far, touching up one annotation on Battle Symphony and refer the drug addictions, as well as the battle he faced with abuse.

Just was replying and saw you tagged me @Empath. So I was looking at Battle Symphony, Heavy, and even Numb and how some of the lyrics can “foreshadow” his death. I don’t mean that he wrote them as a hint or anything like that, but I was thinking when he talks about pain or depression how it affected him more than we thought and ultimately lost the battle after trying to push through.

@jbotting347 in those cases, no I don’t think we should be including retroactive speculative/suggestive language about his death in the tates. as @SpeckHelper was getting at, it would require some particularly relevant context. would definitely be down to look at some annotations where you think it might apply though

for “Heavy” i was trying to apply the verified tate on the lyrics in the bridge “i know im not the center of the universe / but you keep spinning ‘round me just the same” to the other places in the song w/ those same lyrics but it looks like it wont let me because im only an editor…do mods/staff have this ability or is there just nothing we can do?
