Revisiting Rihanna's "Work"

Since releasing two saucy videos with Drake, the song has started to blow up again. I thought this would be a good opportunity to go back and see how we can improve the page!

The biggest issue I’m seeing is whether she’s speaking Patios Jamaican or Bajan. @DonRummy has left some suggestions which people have responded to (like the one below), thoughts? (I also think we could split this tate into two).

There’s also some back and fourth about the Dry!…Me a desert him lyric.

Suggestions on this annotation here, @ezra.

More here, @annaose.

@Slickk has a suggestion here with 13 upvotes, do we agree?

I wonder if anyone ever pondered over the ending of this line:

Just get ready fi…

Also, I don’t think my edit over here is quite complete.

@AprilHumphrey made an insightful comment that seems to say that she’s speaking Jamaican Patois, but doing it in the manner that a Bajan speaker would.

wrt. the second annotation, it seems slickk already integrated his suggestion. Tbh I prefer the old annotation. Yeah, we shouldn’t assume that everything Drake says is a shot at Meek (or Kendrick), but that kind of generic “Drake is popular so people don’t like him” restatement doesn’t make for a good annotation. Saying “but what if he didn’t have beef with Meek?” is irrelevant, because he does. For now I’ll just fix the grammar, but I think we should revert to the old annotation.

@Tyrant I already went in and edited that yesterday. I let it sit for a while hoping someone else might jump on it but I think it’s looking good now.

The only thing about splitting the annotation into two is that the first one might be too short and have little content. I’m cool to split it into two if we want, but I don’t really think it needs to be (IMO)

re: that Drake annotation @Vesuvius and @Slickk were editing

I initially added the “No Telling” lyric at the end when the annotation had a less relevant lyric. However, with the reworked annotation, we have two separate lyric references to that song.

gonna try and include that @Vesuvius . seems to make the most sense

co-sign @Slickk re: the beef, i’m happy to keep that there

integrated all of that and some other stuff. last one is this suggestion with 15 upvotes. don’t really understand it? it’s on the hook annotation:

I’d like to point out that her character seems to display a malevolent behavior upon his character. Maybe an infidel in a sense and she could be showing her aggravation at his tolerance of her actions when she says ‘he see me do me dirt’ then ‘When u ago learn?
