Didn’t think I’d end up making another one of these as I’m not really on here a lot now but with the recent Tory Lanez Vs. Joyner Lucas challenge “beef” going on rn I wanted to see what people think of Joyner here now, considering that people (at least used to) dislike him on here

When Joyner Lucas blew up with I’m Not Racist, the Gucci Gang Remix and the Bank Account remix last year it wasn’t really the best blowup / first impression, with Gucci Gang and Bank Account not exactly being his style beats and I’m Not Racist either being seen as corny or (ironically) racist by some people, myself being one. I used to be one of the people who thought Joyner was trash until I heard his feature on Eminem’s Lucky You

I thought Joyner did pretty good on this track so I then went on to listen to more of his music (this was before the Tory Lanez thing happened btw)

and idk what the community here thinks of him but I think he’s underrated / slept on (although it sort of makes sense why cos of his misleading blowup) and now I consider myself a fan of him despite still having to listen to most of his music. Unpopular opinion but I’d say he’s one of the best new school rappers.

Despite his blowup not being so good I don’t see why he didn’t make the XXL 2018 Freshman class meanwhile J.I.D Wifisfuneral and Stefflon Don made it on there when Stefflon mainly makes pop music and Wifi and J.I.D didn’t get nowhere near as big blowups as Joyner. What did Wifisfuneral even do to get on there? J.I.D was my favourite out of the freshman list and definitely made his spot count with renegading Ski Mask though so I shouldn’t really question his spot on there. No disrespect to any of the others either but I just don’t see why Joyner didn’t make the class over 3 smaller artists who didn’t have as much of a breakthrough

Now with the Tory Lanez freestyle challenge thing going it’s good how Joyner is getting more of the spotlight he deserves and hopefully his album ADHD will do well when that comes out too, and possibly result in him no longer being slept on, kinda like what happened with Denzel Curry’s album success. If anyone hasn’t heard anything from Joyner other than I’m Not Racist and the Gucci Gang and Back Account remixes then you really should check out more of his stuff as it’s a lot better and you probably didn’t get the best first impression of his music

I’ve heard of him before “I’m not racist” from that Panda freestyle that people liked. Haven’t really had the desire to check out his music until I heard his Lucky You verse. I listened to (508)-507-2209 and it was alright. I feel that most people have gotten the perception that he’s just corny and cringe which isn’t the case for the most part.

Great post, I was introduced to him by I’m Not Racist, after that I listened to the Gucci Gang freestyle, which I enjoyed. I later started to notice his name on here more and noticed that RG’s perception of him was that he was corny, trash, unlistenable, and other exaggerated terms. After listening to the Lucky You feature I also became a fan. I personally enjoy his music, and look forward to listening to his album. I’m not sure why he was not included in the XXL Freshman List, unless he denied being a part of it, its been done before.
