Gojira – FORTITUDE: Thoughts? Hopes? News?

Hey guys, Gojira has finally announced their 7th studio album, Fortitude, which will be released on April 30th. I know I’m not the only one who’s excited out of their mind for this album, so I decided to make this thread to discuss it:

What are you hoping for in the next album?
Have you heard anything interesting about it?
What do you think it’ll be like?
Any other thoughts or comments?

I thought “Another World” was really underwhelming. It wasn’t a bad song, but by Gojira standards it was pretty dull. But this song completely erased my doubts about their future direction. I’ve listened to it I don’t even know how many times at this point, and I get goosebumps every time. That harmonic breakdown at the end is pure filth. Probably one of my favorite Gojira songs period. Very excited to hear how the rest of the album will sound. Hopefully more of this style and less “Another World”. If that ends up being the case, there’s a very good chance this will be my AOTY.

@louiedro I definitely agree that the new single is the better of the two, but I actually really like Another World too. That part at 2:15 gets me pumped up every time. I’m guessing it’ll be better in the context of the rest of the album.

Also, the use of clean guitars at 1:53 and the outro has me a little excited, cause that kinda suggests that we might have some quiet and experimental stuff mixed into the album. I love Gojira’s heavy songs, but I love them even more when they contrast them with melodic and experimental tracks. That’s why Magma is my favorite album; it’s got it’s heavy songs, but it also has tracks like “the Shooting Star”, “Magma”, “Pray”, and “Low Lands”.

As for the style of the album, Joe said in an interview a while back that “there are no rules”, and he talked about how bands like Radiohead do whatever they want if it sounds good. So I’m guessing it’ll be just as experimental as Magma, if not more.

@EvanShirley Yep, I know Joe has said they will be experimenting more, and there will probably be less harsh vocals, but “Born for One Thing” seems to say otherwise, it’s got a perfect balance of everything I love about Gojira. Magma is a great album of course but I’m more a fan of their heavier stuff, particularly From Mars to Sirius, The Way of All Flesh, and Terra Incognita which is ridiculously underrated imo. So many insane riffs on that album.
