Ok guys my album this time around is Kid Rock’s seminal 1998 masterpiece Devil Without a Cause. This is an album that came out at the start of the nu-metal era and had an element of genre-mixture to it that would never again be captured by any nu-metal or Kid Rock album ever again. There’s a bit of nu-metal, rap metal, heavy metal, hard rock, southern rock (ik Kid Rock isn’t southern but the style of some of these songs is), hard rock, country, and hip hop all mixed together in this thing. it works beautifully. this shit is certified diamond (10x platinum) man cmon. this is in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book

when i first listened to this album it blew my mind. i had never heard anything like this and i have never heard anything like this since. this is truly a one of a kind album. kid rock never did anything like this ever again and this is one of the only nu-metal albums that truly embraces rap period, much less country which is slightly less present but still its there.

if anything else, listen to it to hear kid rock’s midget sidekick rap one of the most ridiculous verses ever written, and for a pre-fame Eminem feature, yes thats right

i fucking love this album and im not ashamed to admit it. to me this is such a badass work of art and idc what anyone else thinks. im fully aware this shit is ridiculous and honestly so is kid rock, he sounds somewhat self aware on this record, something which was completely erased from his music over time.

look man if you like subtle, graceful, “smart” music ur almost definitely gonna hate this. have fun with it. kick back and dont think too hard about it. forget about any preconceived notions you have about the man named Kid Rock. listen to his white trash redneck magnum opus. this shit is a masterpiece. enjoy.
