"The Love Club" vs. "Pure Heroine"

In my opinion, “The Love Club” is not all that great. “Bravado” and “Royals” were terrific, “Million Dollar Bills” was alright, “The Love Club” was boring, and “Biting Down” was too repetitive.

However, “Pure Heroine” is one of the best albums I have ever heard. The only skippable track is “Still Sane” which is kind of boring.

What are your opinions on these two works by Lorde? In addition, what are your favorite songs from them? Discuss below!

Maybe it’s just because I associate the EP with a really good period of my life, but I think The Love Club is a terrific effort. Sadly I’m not that fussed about Royals anymore, which is a shame because I do like the song. Bravado is most definitely my favourite from that record, but Biting Down I also like just for its minimalism.

From Pure Heroine I agree that there are very few tracks you truly want to skip. Traditionally my favourite has been Ribs but I find myself listening more to Glory and Gore at the moment. But of course, Tennis Court is still pretty badass.

I don’t know if I can pick favourites but I just want to add these into the mix:

@Nighthawks Interesting opinion. I personally do not enjoy “Biting Down” because its minimalism kind of drags it down and makes it boring. Plus, I’m not a really huge fan of its production, even if it wasn’t so repetitive.

“Tennis Court” is one of those songs that is still a 9-10/10 track, but it isn’t the best on the album. Let’s also throw this underrated song into the mix.

My favourite from her is 400 LUX. I love the title, the lyrics and the siren.

I like Bravado and Buzzcut Season as well. They’re her better songs, with all their harmonies and such.

The Love Club and White Teeth Teens always seemed, to me, to be a pretty transparent attempt to establish herself as a “Tumblr Queen”. But, eh.

@Motel “400 Lux” used to be my favorite from the album. Even though I now like “Glory and Gore” better, I still think it is a 10/10. That siren is really cool, and is definitely one of the high ends of the album.

I have never really liked “The Love Club” that much, and it is a disappointing title track.

@Motel I was actually really curious about the title so I looked up what exactly would register at 400 lux in terms of illuminance. If I’m right in remembering it is the level of light at sunrise or sunset on a clear day. Knowing that now I really think it brings out some of the lyrics and gives them extra meaning.

@Nighthawks Good point. A music video for the song may improve the quality of the song too.
