Remember the words you told me
"Love me till the day I die"?
Surrender my everything
'Cause you made me believe you're mine
Yeah, you used to call me "baby"
Now, you're callin' me by name (Mm)
Takes one to know one, yeah
You beat me at my own damn game
[Pre-Chorus: Luke]
You push and you push and I'm pullin' away
Pullin' away from ya
I give and I give and I give and you take
Give and you take
[Chorus: Luke, All]
Youngblood
Say you want me, say you want me outta your life
And I'm just a dead man walkin' tonight
But you need it, yeah, you need it all of the time, yeah (Ooh)
Youngblood
Say you want me, say you want me back in your life
So I'm just a dead man crawlin' tonight
'Cause I need it, yeah, I need it all of the time, yeah (Ooh)
Lately, our conversations
End like it's the last goodbye
Then one of us gets too drunk
And calls about a hundred times
So who you been callin' "baby"?
Nobody could take my place
When you're lookin' at those strangers
Hope to God you see my face (Ooh)
[Chorus: Luke, All]
Youngblood
Say you want me, say you want me outta your life
And I'm just a dead man walkin' tonight
But you need it, yeah, you need it all of the time, yeah (Ooh)
Youngblood
Say you want me, say you want me back in your life
So I'm just a dead man crawlin' tonight
'Cause I need it, yeah, I need it all of the time, yeah (Ooh)
[Bridge: Luke]
You push and you push and I'm pullin' away
Pullin' away from ya
I give and I give and I give and you take
Give and you take
You're runnin' around and I'm runnin' away
Runnin' away from ya, mm, from ya
[Outro: All]
You push and you push and I'm pullin' away
Pullin' away from ya
I give and I give and I give and you take
Give and you take
Youngblood
Say you want me, say you want me outta your life
And I'm just a dead man walkin' tonight
About
On “Youngblood,” 5SOS sing about the push and pulls of a relationship. In this song, we see 5SOS move further away from their defining sound from previous albums and see the growth and maturity in their songwriting.
“Youngblood” is the title track from 5SOS' third album released on June 15th, and was an instant grat when you pre-ordered the album on iTunes.

From their Cocktail Chats // Ep.1:
Calum:
We went back in with Ali Tamposi and Andrew Watt. I remember Ashton brought back up the chorus melody, which we hadn’t heard in a long time. It was a really fluid and creative process.
Michael:
“Youngblood” is probably my favourite song on the record. It feels like a throwback but it also feels modern at the same time. This band has so many different avenues that we can take musically. Being in this band, we had to figure out how to envolve and grow as musicians and as people. We’re not just doing the same thing over and over again, and I think it’s songs like “Youngblood” that come around.
Luke:
Lyrically, it means a lot to me, it means a lot to everyone in the band. There’s some deep lyrics in there. I think it takes me back to a place that is a rough mental state, I would say.
Ashton:
It’s a tormented love, for sure. Writing behind it was one of the first times as a band we felt that we created something that was unique to us, so I’m very excited that “Youngblood” is the first song on our titled album, Youngblood.
Michael:
I think we were halfway through the 5SOS3 Tour when we said, “We think ‘Youngblood’ should come first, let’s put it as a track that, if you pre-order the record, you get it”. Then, “Youngblood” starts kind of going a little crazy on streaming, there’s a couple of “I told you so”’s going around, and we get a phone call from our australian label, and they’re basically telling us that they wanna go with that as the single in Australia, rather than “What You Back”, so we thought “Ok, let’s try it”. They start going with “Youngblood” and then this song really starts to seep into the music scene down in Australia, which ends up evolving outwards to the rest of the world as well, until the song had given everyone else in the world no option but to go with it, because it was going so well everywhere else.
Ashton:
This is a big moment for Aussie music too, because now records are starting to break from Australia, which they never do. They always are expected to get to the U.S. first and try to break the record from the U.S., but now our song is breaking out from Australia, which is a huge moment for this band. It was an amazing spread on that song, and we just watched it grow and grow and grow, and it was an amazing thing to experience.
Calum:
I remember we would have conversations with people and we’d be like, “We love ‘Youngblood’, we think it’s super foward thinking for this band and we wanna release it first”, and our record label guy said to Ash that live drums will never be played on radio. He was like, “Live drums, man? You gotta ditch the live drums”. So, when “Youngblood” was doing so well, it was a really comforting thing for this band, because that indicated that we could blend all our worlds and it’s still derived from an honest place, and it’s still has an impact on music culture, which was really cool.
