It was released on October 7, 2020 in Australia, and is the band's first single released since 2015's "Rock the Blues Away" from their album Rock or Bust. The song was used as the official theme for WWE Survivor Series.

The song was nominated for two Grammys for the 64th Grammy Awards, Best Rock Performance and Best Music Video.

The music video, directed by David Mallet, premiered on AC/DC's YouTube channel on October 26, 2020.

On October 1, 2020, the band teased the new single in a 30-second video posted on Twitter, appearing to power up the amp with its iconic lightning bolt logo while playing the song, and noting PWR/UP, short for Power Up. AC/DC went on hiatus after completing their Rock or Bust tour in 2016, which featured Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose. In 2018, members Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams rejoined the band after the two-year hiatus. On October 5, 2020, the band shared another short clip composed of behind-the-scenes footage featuring brief appearances by all five members of the band.

The vocalist is usually the first in the band whose talents diminish with age, but Brian sounds absolutely just as good as he ever has! I know there is some studio magic that can help with that, but it still sounds pretty organic. I hope he still sounds as good as ever live too.

Grew up listening to these guys back in the 70's. Saw them back in the 80's. One of the best concerts I ever saw. I don't know but it's just not the same without Malcolm up there and dare I say that there's a part of them that looks a tad comical up there. Yeah they can still rock but trust me when I say this is only a bare bones skeleton crew compared to the original AC DC. Hats off to you guys none the less. You were truly one of the best. RIP Malcolm.

One of the things I've always loved about this band, even after all these years, they look like factory workers waiting for the weekend, always kept it real, they were never celebrities. As Malcolm would say "We are a rock n roll band" Simple and honest.

@Julie Braden The issue is bands try to evolve as they get old and all the fans get mad. Look at Green Day, they dropped their new album and everyone just went, “this isn’t Green Day bring us back to 1994 this new shit sucks”. It’s really sad in my opinion how hateful “fans” are when a band tries to make new material.

AC/DC has been in my life since 1974. They went to school, work and even war with me.
I sat on the Polish border with them rocking in 1981. I hooked up a PA system on my tank and went over the berm with them in the Iraq war. Hells Bells it was. I am an old man now. 59 and still rocking. Just like they are.

I love AC/DC, reflecting now about the war do you think it was worth it? The Killing was it useful, especially when you see those who decided are now warlords, investors in private military equipments and the veterans can barely live a decent life especially if they were seriously injured...frankly sir these governments of ours (from both sides) used us for their interests nothing more nothing less. You know something funny? AC/DC used to be one of those groups where I only liked some of their hit songs. But after listening to Power Up, I love them a lot more than I expected to.
