Not just the best song BA ever did IMHO but one of the greatest of the era. Just trying to suss out some of the brilliant lyrics - here's what I've got so far:
Provincial friends of mine
On Glasgow's Evening Times,
I just don't have the time
To sit with you and discuss the past
The lagers we imbibe,
The heavy diatribe!
Hey pharisees and scribes -
Which of us will survive the blast?!
Now I'm a media man,
McCann and Erikson,
Flat in the Barbican.
Who'd want to live in Clarkston?!
A silver anorak,
With 'Porsche' on the back,
No ??????????????, son!
"Y'ure aff y'ur heed, John!"
Saint-Saens on the radio!
Don't care for the video!
With nobody here at my bedside,
You know I must keep Dostoevsky
Saint-Saens on the radio!
You're sitting crying here
Into your heavy beer,
I'm drinking ???? here
And getting ????????? with Melvyn Bragg
A piece in 'Rolling Stone'
And 'Cosmo' on the 'phone,
You call a ????????????
Well that's a drag!
Seeing ?????
And think it's rather nice
???? to dehumanise
??????????
No, no I don't suppose
It is what you'd propose.
It's just so close,
???? the Sandinista -
The standard ????
Saint-Saens on the radio!
Don't care for the video!
With nobody here at my bedside,
You know I must keep Dostoyevsky
Saint-Saens on the radio!
Can anyone fill in the blanks and/or provide corrections, please?! :-)

I might be B.A.'s only American fan, so I don't understand all the British references in this song, but I was able to find an image of the LP sleeve that contains the lyrics. Apparently they are as follows:
Provincial friends of mine
On Glasgow's Evening Times
I just don't have the time
To sit with you and discuss the past
The lagers we'd imbibe
The heavy diatribe
Hey pharisees and scribes
Which of us will survive the blast
Now I'm a media man
McCann and Erickson
Flat in the Barbican
Who'd want to live in Clarkston
A silver anorak
With Porsche on the back
No more the local hack
I run in Regent's Park, son
"Yer aff yer heid, chum"
Saint-Saens on my radio
Gauguin via video
You know by me here at my bedside
You know I must keep Dostoyevsky
Saint-Saens on my radio
You're sittin' cryin' here
Into your heavy beer
I'm drinking sherry dear
And getting on side with Melvyn Bragg
A piece in Rolling Stone
Hey Cosmo on the phone
I call a scone a scone
McLuhan is dead, well that's a drag
I'm saying to Tim Rice
I think it's rather nice
Evita humanised
The face of Peronista
No no I don't suppose
It is what you proposed
Yes yes of course I know
The case for Sandinista
"Gstaad at Easter"
Saint-Saens on my radio
Gauguin via video
You know by me here at my bedside
You know I must keep Dostoyevsky
Saint-Saens on my radio
Saint-Saens on my radio
@DunmoresMovieMania
I remember this way back! I always thought it was "Sad Songs on The Radio!"
@awizardatruestar
What a brilliant song. Bought the single back in the day - I think even the NME considered it to be single of the week. There's not many artist's wrote lyrics as intelligent, witty and incisive as those in the 80's. Well done Brian!
@HeavyMetalWolves
Do you have the lyrics? I can't find them online.
@moreheff
Great stuff. Always loved this song a lot.

THE BEST HE MADE
@ossiorn
Thanks,you just made my evening! B.A Robertson was popular in Scandinavia and came to Iceland to do a concert once.
@tallthinkev
Thought it was his best and always looking for different tunes to cover, this is going to one. People will be thinking 'I know this, but where from?'
@andrewktm450
Well Done Elvis! I've been looking for this song for years ever since I audio tapped episodes of Kenny Everett Video Cassette. I haven't been able to find a copy of Saint Saens - mp3 or otherwise. It seems my patience has paid off.
@Elvisdukebox
Thank you i knew it was a single, i think his best. I Can't remember the oringnal video, just this one from the Kenny Everett Video Cassette. Thanks !!!!!! Enjoy !!!!!! It only for fun!!!!!!!
@DunmoresMovieMania
Kenny Everett Show really put a lot into the "production" when it could've been just a guy singing with a static studio background.
