I'm Losing You
Baz Luhrmann Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got the feeling
There's no concealing
Just what it is that's on my mind
I know that I'm losing you
There's no pretending there's a happy ending
This stories closing and there's nothing more
Can it be that I've lost you?
I've seen it happen
I know the pattern
The way true love disappears
Just when now more than ever
I need you
I need your love
I'm losing the love that I knew
Losing the love that I knew
I'm losing you
No use in staying
No use in saying
Or begging you to change
I know that I've lost you
My heart it's breaking
The time it's taking
Our love away I see it fade
And with it my happiness
I can't believe
I won't believe it
I won't accept your love is gone
Just when now more than ever I need you
I need your love
I'm losing the love that I knew

Losing the love that I knew
I'm losing you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Baz Luhrmann's song "I'm Losing You" express the heartache and confusion that can come with the realization that a relationship is ending. The singer has a feeling that they can no longer hide, and it is the feeling of losing their partner. They acknowledge that there is no happy ending to their story, and they are not pretending otherwise. The singer has seen true love disappear before and recognizes the pattern in their current situation. They need their partner's love now more than ever, but it seems that it is slipping away from them.

The second verse continues the story of heartbreak, with the singer recognizing that there is no use in begging their partner to change. They know that they have lost their partner and their heart is breaking as they watch their love disappear. The love that brought them happiness is fading away, and the singer is struggling to come to terms with this loss. They cannot believe it, and they won't accept that their love is gone, but it seems that it is too late.

I bought this album when I was making an emergency dash home to visit my Dad who had just had a severe stroke and was in Hospital. Just picked the album from a stand at a service station. I visited my Dad and realised nothing would ever be the same again. As I got back in my car that afternoon this song started playing from the album. Needless to say I had to pull the car to the side of the road for a while. Very emotional every time I hear this.

That is a very tender, beautiful story. Thank you for sharing this with me and others! I have been so busy that I haven't even glanced at my Youtube channel for years, so.... I wish I had seen your comment sooner. My deepest condolences for your father. You were very loved, as you must have loved him right back.

That's why I made this and other videos... ;-) I could not find some of my most favorite songs here on Youtube, so I made my own!

@silentleopard1

Amazing to me that so few people know or have heard this beautiful song. I'm familiar with Baz from Strictly Ballroom but was surprised of the depth and breath of this song !

@dreamichristini

I agree! I wish I knew who the singer was because she has range...! Sorry, I only saw your message today. Been off my channel for years, unfortunately.

@silentleopard1

@dreamichristini Glad your back !

@JessieMouse8

I love this song so much!!!

@dreamichristini

LOVED Strictly Ballroom... one of my favorite movies! I agree--this song is so unique that -naturally - there were ZERO videos of Lani singing this song--or anybody, for that matter!! So, I made my OWN.... I thought the story of "Onegin" would be a great concept for the essence of this song--it's so short, though, that I had to do serious editing between the movie version & the ballet version. I'm proud of how it turned out, actually...! :~)

@JorgeDee1

Etherearily beautiful...a frozen spider web quivering in the winter breeze!
