Curtain Falls
Blue Lyrics

Duncan
We come from humble beginnings and
Who could have guessed it when
You sit and doubt it and
Things ain't all that bright
But we made it through the night
It's like a game of truth or dare
If you can make it here
You'll make it anywhere
That's what we've been told
But the stories getting old

Lee
Together we faced the cold outside
No one can say we didn't try
And I will never give you up or let you go
Together we faced our final fears
Remember the moments that we shared
That's why I'll never give you up or let you go

All
We'll be ready when the curtain might fall
Feel my heart beating when the crowd calls
I gotta read between the lines
Cause I'm living out the script of my life
Cause we all got a part we must play
And I've done it but I've done it my way
I gotta read between the lines
Oh (oh)
In the script of my life

Simon
We started out many years ago
No one will ever know
How far we've really come
Since we walked away
And no more words to say

Antony
And we made a lot of sacrifice
Undid a lot of ties
Fought a lot of fights
To get where we are now
Just don't ask me how

Lee
Together we faced the cold outside
No one can say we didn't try
And I will never give you up or let you go
Together we faced our final fears
Remember the moments that we shared
That's why I'll never give you up or let you go

All
We'll be ready when the curtain might fall
Feel my heart beating when the crowd calls
I gotta read between the lines
Cause I'm living out the script of my life
Cause we all got a part we must play
And I've done it but I've done it my way
I gotta read between the lines
Oh
In the script of my life

Simon
We'll be ready when the curtain might fall
Feel my heart beating when the crowd calls
I gotta read between the lines
Cause I'm living out the script of my life
Cause we all got a part we must play
And I've done it but I've done it my way
I gotta read between the lines
In the script of my life

All
We'll be ready when the curtain might fall
Feel my heart beating when the crowd calls
I gotta read between the lines
Cause I'm living out the script of my life
Cause we all got a part we must play
And I've done it but I've done it my way
I gotta read between the lines
Oh(oh)
In the script of my life

All
We'll be ready when the curtain might fall
Feel my heart beating when the crowd calls
I gotta read between the lines
Cause I'm living out the script of my life
Cause we all got a part we must play
And I've done it but I've done it my way
I gotta read between the lines

Oh (oh)
In the script of my life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Blue's song Curtain Falls are all about accountability and consequence. The lyrics resonate the truth that every action always has a consequence. This is alluded to when it is said, “There’s a time, there’s a space for all, after the curtains fall. On the stage every crime feeds rage, an audience will see it all. They’ll remember what you do”. This means that whatever we do, whether big or small, we are seen and judged by those who have witnessed it. And this is why we should always be mindful of our actions, as they will eventually catch up to us. The chorus implies that the curtain falling is synonymous with the moment when we all have to face up to our actions and their consequences; and the light of revelation is shed on our actions, illuminating the point of view.

The rest of the lyrics almost seem to question whether or not people make the decisions they do out of their own accord or if they are pressured to do so by another party. The lyrics encourage reflection on one's past and reason for their actions, lest we become trapped and resentful in the future- "all that I was, I'm leaving it so far behind, just far enough for you to make up your mind". The lines, "Hear your voice say you had no choice, it's only your own voice truth, think on back on your distance past, look into your heart of youth, maybe that could change your mind" encourages introspection before blaming anything or anyone for our actions.
