His mother played songs by Frank Sinatra to him as a child, and he later became a fan of Motown and other R&B/soul music. He took piano lessons as a child, but he did not like them. He would skip the lessons and ride his bicycle across the bridge from his grandfather's farm over to the heart of the black "Chicken Hill" ghetto, where he could just listen and absorb the music.
In the 1960s, Hall attended Temple University, but did not graduate, preferring instead to spend his time singing on the street corners and play with various musicians and groups. At that time, Daryl Hohl (as he was called then) sang backup for different bands. He eventually changed his last name to Hall. Daryl Hall idolized the Temptations and began to perform session work as a singer. He first met John Oates at a band competition.
After John transferred to a different school, Daryl joined the band Gulliver, which released one eponymous album in 1969 before being dropped from their label.
Daryl is the host of the wildly popular online show entitled "Live From Daryl's House", where Daryl and the band collaborate with artists from various musical genres on the 15th of each month. The first episode aired in 2007, and it's still going strong. Best of all, it's free to watch.

Everybody's trying to tell me what is right for me, yeah
My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon
But it's plain to see that they can't comfort me
Sorry, Charlie, for the imposition
I think I got it (got it), I got the strength to carry on, yeah
I need a drink and a quick decision
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why, what went wrong?
Get up in the morning, look in the mirror
One less toothbrush hanging in the stand, yeah
My face ain't looking any younger
Now I can see love's taken a toll on me
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why, what went wrong?
Think I'll spend eternity in the city
Let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away, yeah
And pretty bodies help dissolve the memories
They can never be what she was (was) to (to) me
And she's gone, and she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why, what went wrong?
She's gone
Oh I, I better learn how to face it
She's gone, she's gone
I can't believe that she's gone
Oh I, I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone
Oh I, I better learn how to face it
She's gone, she's gone
I can't believe that she's gone
Oh I, I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone (she's gone)
She's gone (she's gone)
She's gone (she's gone)
She's gone (she's gone)
She's gone (she's gone)
She's gone (she's gone)
She's gone (she's gone)
Daryl Hall's famous song "She's Gone" is a heartbreaking ballad that delves into the pain of losing someone you love. The opening verse sets the tone for the entire song, as Hall sings about how everyone around him is trying to console him, but nobody can ease his pain. The singer of the song dismisses the advice of his father, recognizing that nobody can truly understand what he is going through. He has to find his own path forward, and it is clear that he is struggling to do so. The chorus is the most powerful part of the song, as Hall sings, "She's gone, she's gone, I'd pay the devil to replace her." This line is particularly poignant because it encapsulates the feeling of desperation that comes with heartbreak.
As the song progresses, the singer becomes more and more distraught. He wakes up in the morning to find that his partner has truly left, evidenced by her missing toothbrush. He reflects on the toll that love has taken on him, recognizing that he is looking older and feeling worn out. The singer decides to escape into the city, where he can distract himself from his pain by indulging in meaningless and fleeting pleasures. He acknowledges that this is not a real solution, but it is all he can do for the time being. The song ends on a somber note, with the repeated refrain of "She's gone" driving home the sense of loss and emptiness that the singer feels.
In summary, "She's Gone" is a powerful song about the pain of heartbreak and loss. The singer is struggling to cope with the fact that his partner has left him, and he cannot find any solace from those around him. The chorus is particularly memorable, as it underscores the desperation that comes with heartbreak. Throughout the song, Hall's vocals are raw and emotional, conveying the sense of agony that the singer feels.

Sorry to say… people don’t change…
They are who they are…
Good Luck moving on…
I really mean it…. My daughter has me doing a Storyworth to collect thoughts….
That was a question I had to answer
I told her the same thing…
We try to make better decisions but in the end sometimes we succeed and sometimes we fail
Good Luck 🍀
