His mother played songs by Frank Sinatra to him as a child, and he later became a fan of Motown and other R&B/soul music. He took piano lessons as a child, but he did not like them. He would skip the lessons and ride his bicycle across the bridge from his grandfather's farm over to the heart of the black "Chicken Hill" ghetto, where he could just listen and absorb the music.
In the 1960s, Hall attended Temple University, but did not graduate, preferring instead to spend his time singing on the street corners and play with various musicians and groups. At that time, Daryl Hohl (as he was called then) sang backup for different bands. He eventually changed his last name to Hall. Daryl Hall idolized the Temptations and began to perform session work as a singer. He first met John Oates at a band competition.
After John transferred to a different school, Daryl joined the band Gulliver, which released one eponymous album in 1969 before being dropped from their label.
Daryl is the host of the wildly popular online show entitled "Live From Daryl's House", where Daryl and the band collaborate with artists from various musical genres on the 15th of each month. The first episode aired in 2007, and it's still going strong. Best of all, it's free to watch.

She stood me up and I stood there waiting
It'll be alright
When the morning comes
Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair
I've got nowhere to go, I can go anywhere
It'll be alright
Just in passing, I'm not asking
That you can be anyone but you
When you come home, try to come home alone
It's so much better with two
Now I'm out in the cold and I'm getting old
Standing here waiting on you
It'll be alright
When the morning comes
When the morning comes
When the morning comes
Just in passing, I'm not asking
That you can be anyone but you
When you come home, try to come home alone
It's so much better with two
Now I'm out in the cold and I'm getting old
Standing here waiting on you
It'll be alright
When the morning comes
When the morning comes
It'll be alright
When the morning comes
I went downtown to see milady
The song "When The Morning Comes" by Daryl Hall blends powerful lyrics with a memorable melody. The opening verse sets the scene of a man who has been stood up by his lady after going to see her downtown. Despite the hurt initially felt, the chorus reassures the listener that time heals all wounds and that it will be alright in the morning.
The second verse reveals the man is now running through the rain without a clear direction. Once again, the chorus confirms that despite the current uncertainty in his life, tomorrow is a new day, and everything will be alright. The bridge is a reflection of the man's true feelings, urging his lady not to change who she is when she comes back to him. The final verse finds the man continuing to wait alone in the cold, but again he finds comfort in the knowledge that it will be alright when the morning comes.
As a whole, the song's lyrics follow the theme of hope and resilience. The promise that everything will be alright in the morning is a message that can resonate with anyone who has experienced heartbreak, disappointment or uncertainty.
