Harmless Lyrics

By my own hands,
I never knew,
I wanted to be a man
I'll be the first to leave
You never got
How fucked up it got
Oh no this trip wasn't for you
Oh no this trip wasn't for you
Oh no this trip wasn't for you
I'm going to the moon
You were the first to leave
Last night we were alright
I keep falling for you,
Like you don't want me to
We were the last to go
By our own hands
We never knew how we wanted to
Live again
Oh no this trip wasn't for you
I'm going to the moon
The lyrics to Harmless's song Laika speak of someone who is struggling with their own mortality and mental state. They recognize that they may be the first to go, possibly due to suicide, and express that it was their own choice to do so. They also mention that they never knew they wanted to be a man, which could indicate a struggle with gender identity or societal expectations.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase, "Oh no this trip wasn't for you, I'm going to the moon." This could be interpreted as a desire to escape the struggles and pain of life by committing suicide or pursuing a different path in life that others may not understand. The reference to going to the moon could also symbolize a desire for something unattainable or out of reach.
The second verse implies a romantic relationship, with the singer acknowledging that their partner may have left them and that they keep falling for them despite their apparent lack of interest. The final verse brings everything full circle, with the singer recognizing that they and their partner, along with possibly others, will eventually succumb to their own issues and choose to end their lives.
Overall, the song speaks to the struggle with mental health and the desire for escape, whether that be through suicide or a more metaphorical journey to the moon.
