Couples Retreat
Jon Bellion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I might have been tired
You might have been hungry
I might have said something
You might have done nothing
You know you still love me
I might have been wired
You probably need coffee
I know I keep chips on my shoulder like dips so come get it off me

Come say sorry with your body
Come say sorry with your body
Come say sorry with your body
Come and dance with me
I'll say sorry with my body
I'll say sorry with my body
I'll say sorry with my body
Come and dance with me
Come and dance with me

I want to get
I want to get

You crashed in my car
I fucked up vacation
I tried to change this
And you tried to change that but it's just in our nature
I desperately care
You're hopelessly on me
I tried to stay pissed and you tried to stay mad
'Til I grabbed your hips softly

Come say sorry with your body
Come say sorry with your body
Come say sorry with your body
Come and dance with me
I'll say sorry with my body
I'll say sorry with my body
I'll say sorry with my body
Come and dance with me
Come and dance with me

I want to get
I want to get
I want to get

Close
Let me get close
Let me get close
I want to get close
Let me get close
Let me get close

Come say sorry with your body
Come say sorry with your body
Come say sorry with your body
Come and dance with me
I'll say sorry with my body
I'll say sorry with my body
I'll say sorry with my body
Come and dance with me
Toda la era con cadera que todo va pagado

I want to get

I want to get
I want to get

Overall Meaning

In "Couples Retreat," Jon Bellion invites his lover to come open up to him and communicate their feelings through the language of the body. He acknowledges their past mistakes, such as him being tired and saying something that hurt her or her being hungry and doing nothing to address it. Despite those minor conflicts, they still love each other, and he knows he needs to let go of the negative energy that he carries on his shoulders. The line "sorry with your body" emphasizes the idea that physical touch can be an apology that heals emotional wounds.

Jon describes how they have made a mess of their vacation and how they have tried to change each other instead of accepting their differences, as it is part of their nature. Nevertheless, he admits that he desperately cares for her, and she is hopelessly in love with him. In an attempt to break the ice and mend things, he gently grabs her hips, a gesture of passion and affection, while inviting her to dance with him.

@Almeidank

i think it says
“Toda la hera con cadera que esto va pa’ ‘bajo”

The translation would be
“All the Hera with hips ‘cause this is going down”
like I said in the comment above^ doesn’t make sense BUT

Hera is the goddess of women, marriage and family in the greek mitology, that’s all I know

p.s. i’m learning english so if my comment has a mistake, let me know

It's crazy how he can combine genres, layers, and guitar grooves so seamlessly.

@dd22yeezzzus

He truly is a master of his craft.

@Zuleva_Official

Only problem is most of his background that sounds like instruments is his voice

@malachipenalver6992

He got the flow. I started to make music on groovepad following his flow because it's so amazing.

@davidlong4025

Why are so many people sleeping on Jon, he should have 20 Grammys and 50 platinum records

@vithud3777

Cause mainstream likes people who can't speak probably and mumble all the time

@outknocker7142

david long pretty basic human behavior actually.
Music with less message is easier for the brain to handle and the brain always usually goes the way off less effort.
That’s how we survived a long time ago.
Now you have to make a conscious decisions to not do the easiest every time you’re in front of a choice.

@giftapfel

@@outknocker7142 I think if that was the truth then literally everyone would just listen to mumble rap. I choose to listen to this because it doesn't sound like shit, doesn't make me special.

@lmaoimmacow7677

He said "don't call me underrated I don't wanna be famous or somthing along the lines of that in one of the songs in this album I can't remember tho

@giftapfel

@@lmaoimmacow7677 Yea he said he likes being the underdog and would prefer not to be crazy famous.
