You'll Think Of Me
Keith Urban & John Fogerty Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I woke up early this morning around 4 AM
With the moon shining bright as headlights on the interstate
I pulled the covers over my head and tried to catch some sleep
But thoughts of us kept keeping me awake
Ever since you found yourself in someone else's arms
I've been tryin' my best to get along
But that's okay
There's nothing left to say, but

Take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don't need 'em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you'll think of me
And take your cat and leave my sweater
'Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me, you'll think of me

I went out driving tryin' to clear my head
I tried to sweep out all the ruins that my emotions left
(I guess I'm) I guess I'm feeling just a little tired of this
And all the baggage that seems to still exist
It seems the only blessin' I have left to my name
Is not knowing what we could have been
What we should have been
So

Take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don't need 'em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you'll think of me
And take your cat and leave my sweater
'Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me

Someday I'm gonna run across your mind
But don't worry, I'll be fine
I'm gonna be alright
While you're sleeping with your pride
Wishin' I could hold you tight
I'll be over you
And on with my life

So take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don't need 'em
And take your cat and leave my sweater
'Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me

So take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don't need 'em
Take your space and all your reasons
But you'll think of me
And take your cat and leave my sweater
'Cause we got nothing left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me, you'll think of me, yeah

Mmhm
And you're gonna think of me
Mm, yeah
Ooh someday baby, someday
Mm ooh, mm mm, oh yeah

Think of me, mmhm, baby darling
No no, do do do do, no no

Overall Meaning

Keith Urban's song "You'll Think of Me" is about a man dealing with the end of a relationship. He wakes up in the middle of the night with thoughts of his ex-partner keeping him awake. He has been trying to move on since his partner found someone else, but it's not easy. The song is a reflection of his feelings of hurt, anger, and acceptance.

In the first verse, the singer is struggling to get over his ex-girlfriend. He's tried to catch some sleep, but his mind is filled with thoughts of her. He mentions that she's found someone else and he's been trying to move on. In the chorus, he tells her to take everything she wants because he no longer needs it. He wants her to take her memories, her space, and her reasons for leaving. He knows she'll think of him someday.

In the second verse, the singer is trying to move on by driving and clearing his head. He mentions that he's tired of carrying the emotional baggage from their failed relationship. He's grateful that he doesn't know what could have been or what should have been. In the final verse, he acknowledges that his ex-girlfriend will eventually think of him but assures her that he'll be okay. He knows he'll be over her and will move on with his life.
