Me
Russ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They ain't come for you, everybody came for me
What I'm supposed to do? That's the way that it be
Don't hate the player, hate the game, just trying to make a name
No feelings for no lames nah nah nah nah nah
They ain't come for you, everybody came for me
What I'm supposed to do? That's the way that it be
This how the story go, sit back, enjoy the show like
Now you know good and damn well, too many times I fell
Learned my lesson and count my blessings, now I'm giving em' hell
From the hometown down to Atlanta, back up need to see my folks
They say "Keep doing that shit", I just hope I'm giving em' hope
Back and forth with the dope, sometimes I smoke, other times I'm broke
Ain't no game, it ain't no joke nigga, everything I wrote
Turn to gold, the Midas touch, clocking in, your time is up
Pick a side, divide my trust, take this ride, survive I must
Close to the edge with a dollar and a dream
Somewhere in between what it is and how it seems
Need that big bag so I can split it with my team
And don't want to be that type that's always heard and never seen, nah
They ain't come for you, everybody came for me
What I'm supposed to do? That's the way that it be
Don't hate the player, hate the game, just trying to make a name
No feelings for no lames nah nah nah nah nah
They ain't come for you, everybody came for me
What I'm supposed to do? That's the way that it be
This how the story go, sit back, enjoy the show like
I woke up this morning feeling like I'm the man
If you don't like it then I don't give a damn
I done been distracted, now I'm sticking with the plans
Feeling so sure like where water meets the sand
Throw a band, I don't have it, check my bank account in traffic
Can't find my way, I guess the GPS will map it
Pull that tempo and let me catch it, once in a while I'm a little bit ratchet
Write this down then I rap it, out of your league in a whole 'nother bracket yeah
None of us perfect but we tried, all of them capping, all of them lied
They will never break my stride, can't stay long 'cause I've got to slide
Read in between them lines, it really ain't hard to find
It been my time to shine, better make room, open up them blinds
They ain't come for you, everybody came for me
What I'm supposed to do? That's the way that it be
Don't hate the player, hate the game, just trying to make a name
No feelings for no lames nah nah nah nah nah
They ain't come for you, everybody came for me

What I'm supposed to do? That's the way that it be
This how the story go, sit back, enjoy the show like

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Russ's song "Me" are very introspective, speaking to his journey as an artist and the challenges he's had to face. In the chorus, he repeats the phrase "they ain't come for you, everybody came for me" to acknowledge the fact that he is the center of attention and the one people are focusing on. He then questions what he's supposed to do in this situation, stating that he's just trying to make a name for himself and doesn't have any feelings for those who are trying to hold him back. He emphasizes the importance of hustling and working hard to achieve his goals, regardless of the obstacles that come his way.

The verses are a reflection of Russ's journey, from falling down multiple times to learning from his mistakes and counting his blessings. He speaks of his hometown and how he needs to visit his folks there. He talks about the ups and downs of his career, from having money to being broke, but despite it all, he has turned everything he's written into gold. He acknowledges his talent and the fact that he's close to achieving his dreams, but he still has a long way to go.

In the second verse, Russ speaks of feeling like the man and being sure of himself. He talks about sticking to his plans and not getting distracted. He also mentions how he doesn't have much money, yet he still writes and raps, proving that he's in a different league. Russ encourages his listeners to read between the lines and understand that he's been shining for a while now. He ends the verse by telling those who are trying to stop him to make room and open up their blinds.

Overall, the song "Me" is a motivational anthem for anyone who is trying to make it in life. It encourages people to work hard, stay focused on their goals, and not let others bring them down.

Yeah, mm yeah, there's a difference
Oh yeah, there's a difference
Oh, yeah, there's a difference
There's a difference, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Me, got it out the mud, they respect that
Me, always spread the love when I get back
You, got your hand out, that's a bitch move
You, always complaining like a bitch do
Me, still right here with who I came with
Me, self-made, my circles on the same shit
You, got a different crew every weekend
You, don't want it that bad, keep sleeping
Yeah, you wished for it, me, I worked for it
Everyone passed on me like Kurt Warner
Search warrant needed, your career went missin'
This ain't overnight, this is year ten visions
Peers listen and they know that I'm up next
That's your girl? Why she always do whatever Russ says?
Success is somethin' that I'm blessed with mentally (yeah)
I got plaques for my raps and my melodies
Can't forget about the beats too, I'm the best kept secret
Real shit or fake shit, pledge your allegiance
I was off for so long, now I'm on though
Bitch, I'm talkin', don't you interrupt this God flow
Thank you to anyone who ever slammed the door on me
Because of you, I did it myself, so it means more to me
Did so many free shows and now they can't afford the fee
No one gave a fuck and now the whole world's recordin' me, yeah
Me, got it out the mud, they respect that
Me, always spread the love when I get back
You, got your hand out, that's a bitch move
You, always complaining like a bitch do
Me, still right here with who I came with
Me, self-made, my circles on the same shit
You, got a different crew every weekend
You, don't want it that bad, keep sleeping
Lately, I been tryna minimize all my stresses
Seven figures when they tax me, that's a blessin'
Diss me, I'mma diss you back on a hit song
PDs love me worldwide, you'll get shit on
Get it on your own or I can't respect it
See me in person, don't call, don't text it
Show a lot of love to my people, I don't post it
Y'all don't gotta know, just as long as they know it (yeah)
Despite your efforts, I'm here and I always will be
No rap name to hide behind, this the real me
Before the plaques, I was certified
I do business, I keep my income diversified
I counted 35 thousand with my family last night
And another 35 before this verse
I be layin' wide awake up in my thoughts at night like
"Goddamn, motherfucker, this worked"
Me, got it out the mud, they respect that
Me, always spread the love when I get back
You, got your hand out, that's a bitch move
You, always complaining like a bitch do
Me, still right here with who I came with
Me, self-made, my circles on the same shit
You, got a new crew every weekend
You, don't want it that bad, keep sleeping

@Hunter-ct7ib

this video concept is so dope, its showing that russ has 4 versions of himself or 4 personalities, 1. the creator, beat maker, producer 2: the swagger filled one, sherpa coat, chains & ice 3: the designer, drawing & coming up with lyrics & 4: the chill one, in the red track suit, relaxing with homies. shit is next level

@MrCopedag

Hunter Thiessen yeah it could go like that but its more like the first russ that comes out is the producer then the one in red is the engineer/ mixer & master and the one recording is the rapper or performer i guess and then its the writer that throws the paper at him its a fucking brilliant idea how the video ended i dig that shit 🖒🖒

@nathandumbrique7774

Hunter Thiessen and the fact he can switch it from rapping to singing during his different personalities. Shit's dope. He's collaborating this one song with four different mindsets; that's art.

@Shuznye

Thats not entirely true, the rapper/swagger is the one in the coat, the red track suit is actually the beat producer, the designer is the one you said and the first one im not sure who he is

@nathandumbrique7774

Pedro Silva I feel the first one is just who he is now. You never see what he's vibing with. His popular stuff showed his fits and hairstyle like how the rapper and track suit dude wear; the lyricist is how he used to be, and that sheep wool hoodie is him just chilling now while he writes and mixes his shit.

@grahamyodude

I think you're overanalyzing. Its just simply a cool video
