Russians
Sting(스팅) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria.
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets.
MIster Krushchev said, "We will bury you."
I don't subscribe to this point of view.
It'd be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too.
How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
There is no monopoly on common sense
On either side of the political fence.
We share the same biology, regardless of ideology.
Believe me when I say to you,
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put the words in the mouth of the president?
There's no such thing as a winnable war,
It's a lie we don't believe anymore.
Mister Reagan says, "We will protect you."
I don't subscribe to this point of view.
Believe me when I say to you,
I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology, regardless of ideology.

But what might save us, me and you,
Is if the Russians love their children too

Overall Meaning

Sting's song "Russians" was released in 1985 during the Cold War era where tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union were high. The lyrics reflect the fear and anxiety of nuclear war and the hope that we have more in common with each and that the love for children can bridge that gap.

The opening verse talks about the growing sense of hysteria in Europe and America due to the threat of the Soviets. The lyrics refer to a famous phrase by Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev who once said, "We will bury you." The song contradicts this statement and emphasizes that both sides share common sense and biology, and ultimately, the love for their children. The line "how can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy?" references J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the scientists who worked on the development of the atomic bomb, highlighting the destructive nature of nuclear weapons.

The second verse mentions the optimistic rhetoric of President Ronald Reagan, who promised to protect America against its enemies. However, the song concludes by reiterating the message that both sides must recognize their shared humanity. Sting sings that "what might save us, me and you, is if the Russians love their children too," subtly calling for diplomacy and not war as the solution to global issues.

Speaking of it's all over again, the west invaded Europe and Africa and Russia was there to clean it up while you bark at Russians for doing their job, of protecting their own.

This happened over and over again yet no one learns a damn thing about anything.

Especially today. NATO invaded Europe and is attacking Russia while magically Russia is an invaidor on it's own lands ...

Same was applied to Serbia and bunch of other who NATO is in war with. NATO invades and kills natives magically those natives are the aggressors and are invading themselves.

Do world a favor and just f-ck off. Especially things you can't comprehend even a concept of let alone the entire thing, nor clearly want to even try to learn.
The west and their zombies should leave out of their filthy mouths the countries that are centuries far older then your pathetic fake ones, in any negative way.
Because whatever your spoiledass have today is thanks to those same old countries your officials butcher and pillage.

There is this man in Russia
Diagnosed with schizophrenia
A million-dollar-yacht and private jet
Just like every other good Soviet
Mister Putin said, "This is not a war"
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
His fear of the Corona-flu
May-be this Russian’s just a bit cuckoo!
*
How can a Nazi be a Yew?
His bombs and his mind just blew
And all these sanctions make no sense
The world has lost its innocence
We share the same stupidity
Regardless of our geology
Trust in God and toodeloo
I think this Russian’s just a bit cuckoo!
*
This is a historical song I sing
And I do hope that it will Sting
There’s no such thing as a World War 4
My voice is gone so I must roar
Mister Biden says, "We won’t protect you"
The old man has no balls or clue
Why don’t we put-in in a zoo?
Because this Russian’s just a big cuckoo!
*
He keeps inflicting all this pain
On the people of Ukraine
But what might save us, me and you
Is when this cuckoo flies to Waterloo!
