Rise
Vedder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Such is the way of the world
You can never know
Just where to put all your faith
And how will it grow

Gonna rise up
Burning black holes in dark memories
Gonna rise up
Turning mistakes into gold

Such is the passage of time
Too fast to fold
Suddenly swallowed by signs
Low and behold

Gonna rise up
Find my direction magnetically

Gonna rise up
Throw down my ace in the hole

Overall Meaning

Vedder's song "Rise" is an introspective song that delves deep into the human psyche in order to explore how people often struggle with the complexities of the world around them. The lyrics speak of the struggles of faith and finding a place for it, as well as the speed of life and how it can take people by surprise. The opening lines, "Such is the way of the world, You can never know, Just where to put all your faith, And how will it grow", speak to the difficulty that people often face when it comes to finding faith and trusting in the world around them. It suggests that there is no clear answer, and that one must struggle to find their own path.

The chorus of the song, "Gonna rise up, Burning black holes in dark memories, Gonna rise up, Turning mistakes into gold", speaks to the idea that one can overcome their struggles by looking inward and finding strength. This can be seen in the imagery of "burning black holes in dark memories", which suggests that one can overcome the past by letting go of negative emotions and experiences. The idea of "turning mistakes into gold" speaks to the power of perseverance and optimism, and suggests that one can find success even in failure.

The final verse, "Gonna rise up, Find my direction magnetically, Gonna rise up, Throw down my ace in the hole", speaks to the idea of self-discovery and finding the inner strength to succeed. The phrase "Find my direction magnetically" suggests that one can find their way in life by following their own inner compass. The second half of the verse, "Throw down my ace in the hole", speaks to the idea of taking a risk and putting oneself out there, even when success is not certain.

Overall, Vedder's "Rise" is a powerful anthem of self-discovery and perseverance. It encourages listeners to find their own paths in life and to embrace their struggles in order to achieve success.

Così va il mondo
non puoi mai sapere
dove riporre tutta la tua fede
e come crescerà

Mi solleverò
Bruciando buchi neri nei ricordi oscuri
Mi solleverò
Trasformando gli errori in oro

Così è lo scorrere del tempo
Troppo veloce da domare
Improvvisamente ingoiato dai segni
Sorprendentemente

Mi solleverò
Trovando la mia strada magneticamente
Mi solleverò
Giocherò il mio asso nella manica

My wife died of meningitis on 13.9.2009. The film was our last visit to the cinema. And the song also ran at the funeral. I still don't know if I should laugh or cry. 10 years without the love of my life. Fortunately I have my two boys, who remind me again and again.

It may seem weird but I keep thinking about this beautiful song and possible pictures of your wife- though I have no idea who she is- but to imagine her, frolicking through fields and climbing mountains- I hope that is how you see her. I have lost loved ones. To see them in such beauty- beyond where I can go helps me. I hope I can join my lost loved ones again doing what we see in this video.

Be thankful you were blessed to spend that time with such a beautiful human, im sure wherever her soul is now it is at peace. Laugh and cry, theyre both perfectly valid responses to your loss, laugh as you think of all the good times you shared and the happiness you felt when together and cry tears of joy and rememberance for having the opportunity to share your life with such a woman. Wherever her soul is its at peace now, she will always live on, in your heart, your mind and even your very children, carry on the story of her beauty and her essence to your children, dont let the situation allow you to become bitter and lost in grief, use it to grow and to appreciate the things in life we take for granted to create a better future for yourself and your children. I wish you all the best with your future my friend may good fortune and joy shine upon you <3
