Spotless
Zach Bryan Lyrics

Turn on the TV, act like you don't see me
Tell me everything is okay
My mother is a saint and told me if I wait
Everything meant to be will stay
Well, I ain't a believer in people pleasing neither
Fucking telephones have ruined this place
Met a man in New York City, told me humans ain't as pretty
As a perfect day we'll chase for all the days

I ain't spotless, neither is you
For once in my life, I'm gonna see it through
If you want spotless, I'll always lose
I don't want love, lover, I want the truth

People die a thousand times to get to who they are
You were praying to the heavens on a late train car
Your heart knows deeper seasons than my eyes ever will
I'm a self-destructive landslide if you wanna be the hill

I ain't spotless, neither is you
For once in my life, I'm gonna see it through
If you wanna leave this, that's okay
Everything meant to be is bound to stay

Remember jumping in the pool when we was fully clothed in August
We were soaking, choking, smoking in my old shitty apartment
Then they cut off all the lights 'cause the bills were never paid
We were stealing all the power from the neighbors on vacation

I ain't spotless, neither is you
For once in my life, I'm gonna see it through
If you want spotless, I'll always lose
You gave me your love, lover, you gave me the truth

I was alone
You were bettin' on a loser, you were calling my bluff
Holding one another, is it never enough?
You were right there with me

I can't stop this, neither can you
For once in my life, I'm down to see it through

If you want spotless, I'll always lose
You gave me your love, lover, you gave me the truth

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Zach Bryan's song "Spotless" convey a sense of personal reflection and introspection. The singer begins by expressing a desire to be seen and acknowledged amidst the noise and distractions of the world, but also acknowledges the futility of seeking validation from others. The mention of a "perfect day" suggests a longing for simplicity and authenticity in a world that feels tainted.

The chorus reveals a sense of self-awareness and acceptance of imperfections. The singer recognizes that they, like everyone else, are not "spotless" or without flaws. They express a willingness to confront and persevere through these imperfections, rather than striving for an unattainable ideal. The desire for truth over superficial love is emphasized, suggesting a longing for genuine connection and honesty.

The second verse delves deeper into themes of personal growth and self-discovery. The references to dying a thousand times to become one's true self and the contrast between shallow experiences and a deeper understanding of the heart signify a journey towards self-acceptance and inner wisdom. The mention of a self-destructive nature implies a recognition of one's own potential for destructive behaviors, while acknowledging the possibility of finding stability and grounding in a relationship ("if you wanna be the hill").

The final verse reminisces about shared moments and experiences, both joyful and challenging. It depicts a time when the singer and their partner were financially struggling, but finding solace and connection in each other's presence. The mention of stealing power from the neighbors symbolizes the resourcefulness and resilience in the face of adversity.

Overall, "Spotless" explores themes of self-acceptance, authenticity, and the desire for genuine connection and truth in a world filled with distractions and expectations.

My husband died last November and Zach Bryan was his … just meant to so much to him. So I stopped listening to him because it hurt too much. But fucking aye.. this one goes so hard. I miss him so much. There’s nothing in this world I wish more than that he could hear these new songs. Life isn’t fair. 😞

❤ I feel your pain just in a different way...music is in your life for so many reasons if it makes you hurt and cry it might be more of reason you need to listen and never stop listening it's letting it out. It didn't make the pain it just tapped into it. You will always have him in your heart, your spirit, your soul. Nobody will ever take that away, not even you it's in there. People add to who we are, and that includes people in the future, too. Let it happen with the understanding he would want you safe and happy as I'm sure you would him if reversed. When you think of him, think of a memory that made you smile and it's OK to cry.... more than ok❤
