Deceased rappers: what percent of their popularity came from before vs after they died.
|
I’ll be looking at every rapper who has charted on the Hot 100 after their death. I’ve been able to identify 13 rappers so far. Feel free to suggest more artists if I have forgotten some.
This is not a ranking of dead rappers. Because having 100% come from after death isn’t any better or worse than having 1%.
This is just a reference to describe the factual circumstances of their popularity, and how it relates to their death.
And 100% does NOT mean nobody cared about them before death. It’s solely a reference to chart points. If nobody cared about the person before death, they wouldn’t be on this list at all.
Pop Smoke
100% after death
(0 points before | 11,356+ points after)
Pop Smoke is by far the biggest Hip-Hop artist to have not had a charting song before he died. To my knowledge, he should easily be the biggest artist of any genre to have not charted before death.
Before his death, Pop Smoke was best known for his feature on “Gatti” by JackBoys, released less than 2 months before
