Kansas Anymore Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Kansas was you and me, happy ever after
Our love was goin' on like a wheat field goes forever
Kansas was golden roads in your arms, it felt like home
Kansas was you and me, damn, we were happy

[Chorus]
But somewhere, we took a wrong-right turn
Got lost so far from where we were
What do you say when you leave?
I'll start with, "It ain't you, it's me"
Just like a rainbow hits the ground
We fell in love, then fell back down
I opened the front door, sat on thе front porch all alone
And everything's changin', my hеart is breakin'
'Cause baby, we ain't in Kansas anymore

[Verse 2]
There ain't a map to get us back, there ain't no startin' over
We try to find a spark but it's only gettin' colder
We can blame the weather or time but your heart's feelin' less like mine
Every day and either way

[Chorus]
But somewhere, we took a wrong-right turn
Got lost so far from where we were
What do you say when you leave?
I'll start with, "It ain't you, it's me"
Just like a rainbow hits the ground
We fell in love, then fell back down
I opened the front door, sat on the front porch all alone
And everything's changin', my heart is breakin'
'Cause baby, we ain't in Kansas anymore
[Bridge]
Just another way to say this ain't love anymore
Nobody's dreamin', somebody's leavin'

[Chorus]
Somewhere, we took a wrong-right turn
Got lost so far from where we were
What do you say when you leave?
I'll start with, "It ain't you, it's me"
Just like a rainbow hits the ground
We fell in love, then fell back down
I opened the front door, sat on the front porch all alone
And everything's changin', my heart is breakin'
'Cause baby, we ain't in Kansas anymore

[Outro]
We ain't in Kansas anymore
Oh, baby, we ain't in Kansas anymore

What did Megan Moroney say about "Kansas Anymore"?
Genius Answer

I actually thought of that idea when I was playing in the middle of nowhere at a casino in Kansas. I was just thinking about The Wizard of Oz. And I knew I had a write the next Monday with Rodney Clawson, Lori McKenna and Luke Laird. And so I was just thinking of like, ‘what are we going to write? What are we going to write?’ And I was thinking of the Wizard of Oz and how the whole thing is, we’re not in Kansas anymore. And then I was like, what if like Kansas was a metaphor for being in love, and then we hooked it to we’re not in Kansas anymore.
