Sad Songs for Sad People Lyrics
When I'm drivin' down the road I got my radio playin' heartbreak FM
And if I got blue skies, I don't know why but I'd rather see a cloud roll in
Boy, since I met you somethin' in me changed
This ain't what I'm used to, so if it sounds kinda strange
[Chorus]
I write sad songs for sad people, somethin' 'bout the pain
I want every word to hurt like blue eyes cryin' in the rain
They say, "Do what you love," and that's just what I do
I write sad songs for sad people, but I wrote this love song for you
[Verse 2]
I really like the way I really don't hate spending my time with you
And instead of being dеad, my roses are red, and I ain't quitе so blue
I don't wanna run, and I don't want you to leave
I don't sing these kinds of songs, but there's a first time for everything
[Chorus]
I write sad songs for sad people, somethin' 'bout the pain
I want every word to hurt like blue eyes cryin' in the rain
They say, "Do what you love," and that's just what I do
I write sad songs for sad people, but I wrote this love song for you
[Bridge]
I guess it's probably time, I say somethin' 'bout those eyes
And your smile, you know what it does to me
'Cause of you, I got somethin' new to sing
I write sad songs for sad people, somethin' 'bout the pain
I want every word to hurt like blue eyes cryin' in the rain
They say, "Do what you love," and that's just what I do
I write sad songs, I love sad songs
I write sad songs for sad people, but I wrote this love song for you

So I wrote ‘Sad Songs For Sad People’ with Ian Christian and Jordan Fletcher. And they were kind of asking me what the record was missing. And I told them, ‘well, it doesn’t have a love song because I don’t write love songs. You know, sad songs make me comfortable. And that’s how we landed on this one because ‘Sad Songs For Sad People’ is a love song. And it was my favorite record in the studio because we got like the tracking in one take like once everybody had learned it, it just happened so quick and it was perfect. And it’s funny because it actually almost didn’t make the record. I almost gave it away because when we wrote it, I really liked the song but I was like, I said, ‘guys, no love songs. It doesn’t fit the brand.’ And yeah, I’m really glad that it ended up on the record because I think it really ties everything together and nothing like a love song on the last track.
