“Twisted” is one of five songs Missio had released before signing with RCA Records in early 2017. The original recordings of four of those five songs were ‘scrubbed’ from streaming services. “Twisted” was one of two songs re-recorded in preparation for the May 2017 release of their debut album Loner.
The song’s lyrics explore the feelings of and recall things said to songwriter Matthew Brue in his youth. Brue has stated in many interviews he felt secluded and isolated as a child and turned to drugs and alcohol in his teen years.
