Pressure Lyrics

[Intro]
Ah (Pressure)
Mmm (Pressure)
Ooh (Pressure)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Y'all know what this is

[Chorus]
Keep your eyes on me, eyes on me, apply that (Pressure)
Get it, don't be timid when you in it, apply that (Pressure)
Love up on it, nibble on it, leave it (Pressure)
I don't want no drip, baby, spray it like you mean it
So fine and spicy, baby, jump up on this (Pressure)
I guess that's why you like it, baby, come and get this (Pressure)
Takes a lot to excite me, baby, give it all you got (Pressure)
I'm a tough cookie, baby, hit the right spot

[Verse]
Now you textin' me, you know I won't reply (Reply)
Why you ain't fuck with me when I wasn't this fly? (Fly)
Now I'm on top and now I'm ridin' sky-high (Pressure)
Don't need nobody, but I'll take you down tonight
And I'm okay with bein' nasty (Pressure)
Too fuckin' hot for all these clothes anyway (Pressure)
My body drippin', boy, but you gon' have to wait (Pressure)
But when you get it, lick it like a candy cane
[Chorus]
Keep your eyes on me, eyes on me, apply (Pressure)
Get it, don't be timid when you in it, apply (Pressure)
Love up on it, nibble on it, leave it (Pressure)
Said I don't want no drip, baby, spray it like you mean it
So fine and spicy, baby, jump up on this (Pressure)
I guess that's why you like it, baby, come and get this (Pressure)
Takes a lot to excite me, baby, give it all you got (Pressure)
I'm a tough cookie, baby, hit the right spot

[Bridge]
So bop it, baby, twist it, honey
Do it like you mean it, darling
Keep it comin', ooh (Pressure)
Keep me runnin', leave it messy (Pressure)
Go ahead and live in it, swim up in me, oh
So bop it, baby, twist it, honey (Hey)
Do it like you mean it, darling (Hey)
Keep it comin', ooh (Pressure)
Keep me runnin' (Hey), leave it messy (Pressure)
Go ahead and live in it, swim up in me, oh

Genius Annotation

Here, Ari Lennox implores her lover not to be timid during foreplay. She tells him she’s a “tough cookie” and urges him to “apply pressure.”

Lennox linked up with an R&B superteam of songwriters and producers for this sensual track. They are: Legendary producer Jermaine Dupri and songwriting giants Bryan-Michael Cox and Johnta Austin. All three are members of the musical collective Ocean’s 7, whose hits include “Burn” and “Confessions, Pt. 2” by fellow member “Usher”; “Be Without You” by Mary J. Blige; and “We Belong Together” and “Don’t Forget About Us” by Mariah Carey.

Hip-hop producer Anthony “Elite” Parrino. He is known for his work with J. Cole, including “Crooked Smile” and “4 Your Eyez Only.”

Lennox’s friend, the Atlanta singer-songwriter Jai'len Josey.
Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Elite built the production over a sample of Shirley Brown’s 1977 soul hit “Blessed Is The Woman (With A Man Like Mine).”

Lennox told Apple Music she was initially very intimidated by Jermaine Dupri, but once he started creating some “beautiful beats,” she relaxed. When Lennox heard this song’s instrumentation in her headphones, she told him it was the one she wanted to work on. The singer and Austin started writing to it, then she sat on it for some weeks. When Lennox returned to the studio, she called in Jai'len Josey, and her pal completed the song for them.

The word “Pressure” is repeated 28 times throughout the song.
