The Eye Lyrics

[Verse 3]
I am a sturdy soul and there ain't no shame
In lying down in the bed you made

Can you fight the urge to run for another day?
You might make it further, if you learn to stay

[Chorus]
I wrapped your love around me like a chain
But I never was afraid that it would die
You can dance in a hurricane
But only if you're standing in the eye
You can dance in a hurricane
But only if you're standing in the eye

About

Genius Annotation

This song was written by Tim Hanseroth. In an interview with Mary Lucia of 89.3 The Current, Brandi Carlile said, “It’s my favorite song on the album, probably my favorite song ever.”

Brandi chooses to perform the song in order to highlight how she and Tim and Phil Hanseroth are all equally members of their band. Brandi believes that there is no true frontman to the band that is “Brandi Carlile”, because they wouldn’t be what they are without either one of the twins. This song’s tight three-part harmony perfectly demonstrates how integral each voice is to their music, and how they are able to create something beautiful between the three of them.

According to an interview with NPR, they are financially equal members as well: “Carlile and the Hanseroths signed their record deal as three equal partners, and split everything evenly.” The Eye is a great representation of this musical partnership.
