Daddy Issues Lyrics

[Intro]
(Go)

[Verse 1]
I call you too much
You never pick up
Except when you wanna f...
And I can't get enough
You're the man of my dreams
'Cause you know how to leave

But I really believe that you'd change it for me

[Pre-Chorus]
You're unavailable
(Unavailable)
I'm insatiable

[Chorus]
Lucky for you
I got all these daddy issues
What can I do?
I'm going crazy when I'm with you
Forget all the therapy that I've been through
Lucky for you
I got all these daddy issues

(All these daddy issues)
[Post-Chorus]
Daddy issues, uh
Daddy issues, uh

[Verse 2]
Don't know how to commit
But I might want your kid
And after our first kiss
Got your name on my wrist
Yeah, I get a little obsessive
A little aggressive, a little bit too invested
And whatever you want, whenever you want
That's what you get 'cause

[Pre-Chorus]
You're unavailable
(You're unavailable)
I'm insatiable

[Chorus]
Lucky for you
I got all these daddy issues
What can I do?
I'm going crazy when I'm with you
Forget all the therapy that I've been through
Lucky for you
I got all these daddy issues
(All these daddy issues)

[Post-Chorus]
Daddy issues, uh
Daddy issues, uh

[Bridge]
Never enough
Addicted to love with the wrong one

[Chorus]
Lucky for you
I got all these daddy issues
(All these daddy issues)
What can I do?
I'm going crazy when I'm with you (Crazy)
Forget all the therapy that I've been through
(That I've been through)
Lucky for you (Lucky for you)
I got all these daddy issues
(All these daddy issues)
Daddy issues, uh
(All these daddy issues)
Daddy issues, uh
(All these daddy issues)
Daddy issues, uh
Daddy issues, uh

Genius Annotation

“Daddy Issues,” is the fifth track from Tell Me You Love Me where Demi unveils the source of their attraction to “unavailable” men.

The term “Daddy Issues” refers the result of a messed up relationship with one’s father, or having an absent father in ones life. This results in younger women or men chasing older men and are even seeking a father figure from their relationships and mistreatment in some cases.

We are aware that Demi did not have a good connection with their biological father, Patrick Lovato, who died in 2013. Lovato has expressed their disconnection to her father from their previous songs, such as ‘For The Love of A Daughter (2011, Unbroken), ’Shouldn’t Come Back‘ (2013, Demi), ’Father‘ (2015, Confident).

What did Demi Lovato say about "Daddy Issues"?
Genius Answer

When asked what it was like to record the song, Demi said:

Daddy Issues is something that I’ve definitely had with the relationship with my birth father and it affects me to this day, you know, the way that I have relationships with people, so I wanted to write about that because I feel like a lot of people can relate. And so I went into the studio but I wanted it to be up-tempo because I didn’t want it to seem like too heavy, it could easily go that way. And so I thought it would be kind of fun to have like an upbeat kind of pop song that’s kind of ironic that it would be about such a heavy subject.
