The lyrics of ‘Awake’ are about not believing that you can ever succeed in the way that you want to, but still determining yourself to fight toward it anyway. You may not be able to do what you envision yourself doing, but you can at least look back on yourself and say that you tried, that you got these wounds fighting. “It’s not that I believe it, but that I want to try holding out, because this is all that I can do” – All you can do is try and keep hoping that you will succeed. If you fail, you fail, but if you don’t have hope that you’ll succeed, if you don’t at least try, you never will.

The inclusion of the lyrics, “I’m so afraid; still, I hold these 6 flowers tightly in my hand” speaks of something more personal. He’s determined to keep working harder in the group with the other 6 members. Though he may never fly as they do, “the flower petals over there”, he will keep trying, because he wants to hold on to this dream of getting better, he wants to keep going despite the fear that he will never be good enough.
