Life of the Party Lyrics
I'm laughin', I'm dancin'
On tables wearin' sunglasses
Fantastic, yeah, I'm killin' it
I'm faded, I'm takin'
More shots, tequila and Jameson
I'm famous, yeah, I'm killin' it
[Pre-Chorus]
It's 3 a.m., still goin' strong
Not goin' home, no
[Chorus]
Look at me, I'm the life of the party
'Round here everybody loves me
But they don't know that I've been hurtin'
'Cause, baby, ever since you left me
I've been the life of the party
Yeah, I'm the life of the party
[Verse 2]
I'm drinkin' my feelings
'Cause Lord knows that I need it
Repeatin' this whole thing every night
I'm happy, I promise
Could care less if you call me
Honestly, I swear I'm doin' fine
It's 3 a.m., still goin' strong
Not goin' home, no
[Chorus]
Look at me, I'm the life of the party
'Round here everybody loves me
But they don't know that I've been hurtin'
'Cause, baby, ever since you left me
I've been the life of the party
Yeah, I'm the life of the party
[Bridge]
If only you could see me now
I'm goin' hard, I shut it down
I'm better that you're not around
If only you could see me now
I'm goin' hard, I shut it down
I'm better that you're not around
At least that's what I tell myself
[Chorus]
I'm the life of the party
'Round here everybody loves me
But they don't know that I've been hurtin'
'Cause, baby, ever since you left me
I've been the life of the party
Yeah, I'm the life of the party
Yeah, I'm the life of the party
I'm the life of the party

“I wrote this when I was going through a rough breakup, but it didn’t look like I was sad because I was out partying all the time. I think deep down I wanted everyone to know how I really felt, but being the life of the party helped me forget how hurt I was. So I consider this song my ‘sad party girl’ anthem. It was actually written in France, in a castle, on a writing trip with some friends. It was pretty magical—especially while drinking delicious French wine.”

I wanted it to sound like a party song, but really it’s like a sad girl party song, and I love the irony of that. It’s hard for me to write a happy, uptempo song, because that’s not how I feel. So this is probably as close as I will get, really, to something like that.
