Alone Lyrics

[Intro: Nicki Minaj & Kim Petras]
Yeah
It's Barbie and it's Kim Petras (Woo-ah)

[Chorus: Kim Petras]
I've been tryna give it to you all night
What's it gonna take to get you all alone?
I just want you here by my side
I don't wanna be here, baby, on my own
Yeah, don't you wait, don't think about it
Yeah, don't you wait, just come on over now
I've been tryna give it to you all night
What's it gonna take to get you all alone?

[Verse 1: Kim Petras]
Oh, look at me, like what you see?
I've been feelin' lonely, baby, you got what I need
Give me what I like, tryna, uh, tonight
Got an appetite that only you can satisfy (Satisfy)
I could ride it, ride it, ride it, ride it all night
Watch me ride it, ride it, ride it, ride it all night
Wanna feel the rush, wanna feel your touch
Don't talk your talk unless you're gonna back it up

[Pre-Chorus: Kim Petras]
If you want me, let me know
Tell me now, don't hesitate (Hesitate)
You got one chance, baby, don't
Let the moment slip away, no
[Chorus: Kim Petras]
I've been tryna give it to you all night
What's it gonna take to get you all alone?
I just want you here by my side
I don't wanna be here, baby, on my own

Yeah, don't you wait, don't think about it
Yeah, don't you wait, just come on over now
I've been tryna give it to you all night
What's it gonna take to get you all alone?

[Verse 2: Nicki Minaj]
Kimmy bad (Bad)

We throw jabs, bitch'll get dragged
We be like, "Gag," call her Kim Petty (Petty)
When I r-ride it, I ride it steady (Steady)
Brand new Range, I just painted it Betty (Betty)
I set trends from Queens to Beijing ('Jing)

About

Genius Annotation

“Alone,” the highly-anticipated third single, is expected to appear on Kim Petras' upcoming debut album and features one of her all-time favorite artists, Nicki Minaj.

Since its initial announcement in early March, the track generated tons of buzz due to the mystery surrounding its featured artist. However, the song was confirmed to guest-star Minaj and be released all on April 21, 2023, as Petras gave her fans a small snippet of the intro on April 6.

Petras first teased the track on March 9 in a TikTok video, and later revealed a second snippet of the chorus on March 15. This made listeners privy to the sample Petras used, a 90s electronic classic titled “Better Off Alone” by Alice DeeJay. Petras' divergent twist combines elements of synth-pop and edged electro-pop, a sound older-Nicki would be comfortable with.

Interestingly, there have been many hints dropped about Nicki’s involvement in “Alone,” prior to the announcement, through Twitter and Instagram engagements:

  • Tweeted “zonezoooitttr,” a tribute to Nicki’s “zont zo it” meme
  • Minutes later, she replied “nooo … i neeed barbie by my side”
  • Kim’s representative messaged Nicki on Instagram about needing their verses.
  • Confirmed a sample clear and feature on “Alone” via her Instagram Live
  • Liked a “Kim x Nicki manifestation circle” comment—a tweet from a fan
  • Liked a “teasing a collaboration” post—a tweet from Pop Crave
  • Captioned TikTok “va va voom”—a name-drop of Nicki’s “Va Va Voom” track
  • Made a “getting ready to release the song of the summer” TikTok using a Nicki audio
  • Tweeted “Barbie ?” post on April 6
  • Nicki liked a “JUMP ON PETRAS' NEW SONG” comment—an engagement on TikTok

What has Kim said about working with Nicki?
Genius Answer

Well, they don’t necessarily present themselves. I feel like I’ve been working for years to get Nicki on a song, but in secret. I started out as a songwriter so there were many, many sessions where I was like, “I wanna write something for Nicki.” And as a songwriter, I’m just so inspired by her, been for a long time. Pink Friday literally changed my life and I remember lining up to get that CD, which is crazy. Yeah, I’m a barb for life and I’ve made a lot of songs that I thought before like, “Nicki would be dope on this.” But this time it was Nicki loved the song and was down to jump on it. So it was half luck, half just working really hard and writing tons and tons of songs to get there. But I think this is the perfect one and I’m so honored to get the Nicki cosign and I f**king love her so much. That’s my queen.

Did Kim & Nicki write this song together?
Genius Answer

No, Nicki is a different thing because with Nicki I feel like it was always like, “I want a hard ass Nicki verse.” I got exactly that and that was amazing. Nicki is also busy as hell. But yeah, it was amazing. I met her at the music video shoot. We shot it like two days ago and that shoot went till 4:00 AM, so I’m a little tired still. That is just really like the pop song of my dreams alone. I think that song is just really the kind of summer club song I want to hear. And especially being European and loving dance music coming. And bringing that in and then having Nicki on it was such a one of a kind experience.
