We Don’t Talk About Bruno (Mirabel’s Villain Song) Lyrics

[Intro]
We don't talk about Bruno, no-no-no
We don't talk about Bruno
But

[Verse 1]
You made him walk away
He left himself, or so you say
But I've heard another take
You hide in your storm and close off from the rain
But don't see the damage in your wake

From Bruno, then you turn on me
You whisper as if I don't see

The fear, the dread, of what I'll be

[Chorus]
But we don't talk about Bruno, no-no-no
We don't talk about Bruno

[Verse 2]
Every sound you heard but your silence was deafening
Each decibel dismissible to save yourself from meddling
Or maybe you're to scared to make a sound at all?

(She'll be a danger to us all)
Don't stand and rock the boat or you'll risk going overboard
Let the others drown 'fore you reach to pull them back ashore
Well, now the boats sinking and everyone's going down!
[Verse 3]
A constant sign of all that you lack
She's a curse, she's to blame
So quick, turn your back
Well, I'm done playing nice
So maybe think twice when you

[Chorus]
Don't talk about Bruno no-no-no
We don't talk about Bruno

[Verse 4]
Flowers bloom when you walk in a room
But I see all the thorns that you hide
Poison rose, you might think no one knows
But I see right through your disguise

I suffered all this heartache
I sacrificed for your sake
As you ruled and reigned from above

Well, now my pain is ending
I'm done with this pretending
Finally free from chasing your love
(We don't talk about, don't talk)
Free from your love

[Verse 5]
Time to bring this family down
Yeah, I'm the villain in your fairytale now
The sands' run out and there's just you to blame
How's it feel to stain your family name?
I'll reclaim all that I've lost
See you understand what your apathy cost
It's your end of days, and I'll still hear you say

Genius Annotation

“Mirabel has always tried to be understanding, tried to accept that her family was meant to shine and she was meant to blend into the background. She tried to be loving and kind and helpful but her family responded to that kindness with cruelty. They refused to see Mirabel as a valued member of the family and in our story instead of forgiving and trying to connect with her family Mirabel rejects them.

Our Mirabel has allowed her disdain and hatred to grow, and now that darkness blinds her. Her pure heart tarnished by bitterness and her mind set on revenge. If they won’t see her as a valued member of the family then she’ll take away that which they treasure most. To be loved and valued less than a candle, it’s laughable really.

And so it’s about time Mirabel placed a mirror in front of her family, showing them exactly what she sees. Pepa, a frightened coward, hiding in her storms and constantly running from the truth. Dolores, like her mother, too afraid of the truth and of what it means to speak up. Isabela, putting on a performance everyday to avoid what facing herself could truly mean, what facing her thorns could mean. And Alma, the Matriarch, sitting so high above them all that she can no longer see her family, can no longer see what truly matter.

Every single member of her family saw Mirabel’s suffering, saw Bruno’s suffering and chose to ignore it. And so they are no longer worthy of her love, no longer deserving of all the sacrifices Mirabel has made to make this family work. And so, the thing they love and value most will be taken from them. Maybe then they’ll learn what truly matters, that is if they make it out alive."
