Grown Lyrics

[Verse 1: Perrie, Leigh-Anne]
Hold up, wait, you used to be a frenemy
Back then, boy, ya didn't even notice me
Why now you tryna get a hold of me?
We never even spoke, so what makes you think you know me?
It's funny how the tables turn
I'm sitting back, baby, watching you burn
No regrets, it's a lesson learned
'Cause what you think ain't my concern

[Pre-Chorus: Jesy, Jade]
About time that I let you know
My ride and I assume control
You blew it, baby, years ago
Can't get with me, now I'm grown

[Chorus: All, Jade]
(Hey!) Grown now, grown now
Don't you know that I'm grown now, grown now?
Don't you know that I can hold my own?
Boy, you missed the boat
Can't get with me, now I'm grown (Hey!)

[Verse 2: Jesy, Jade]
Your voice dropped, you thought that you could handle me
You played me, but now you tryna holla me
You're washed up and now I'm in a different league
You're trying way too hard and I don't need your flattery
Now, it's funny how the tables turn
I'm sitting back, baby, watching you burn
No regrets, it's a lesson learned
'Cause what you think ain't my concern

[Pre-Chorus: Jesy, Perrie, Jade]
About time that I let you know (I let you know)
My ride and I assume control (Control)
You blew it, baby, years ago
Can't get with me, now I'm grown

[Chorus: All, Jade]
(Hey) Grown now, grown now
Don't you know that I'm grown now, grown now?
Don't you know that I can hold my own?
Boy, you missed the boat
Can't get with me, now I'm grown (Hey!)

[Bridge: Jesy, Perrie, Jade, Jesy & Leigh-Anne]
You didn't want me, you took too long (You didn't want me; Me-e)
You didn't want me and now I'm grown (You didn't want me, yeah; Me-e)
Oh, what a shame, baby, now I'm grown
Oh, woah, eh-yeah

[Chorus: All, Leigh-Anne, Jade, Jesy]
(Hey!) Grown now, grown now
Don't you know that I'm grown now, grown now? (I'm grown)
Don't you know that I can hold my own? (Woah)
Boy, you missed the boat
Can't get with me, now I'm grown (Yeah, eh-eh; Hey!)
Grown now, grown now
Don't you know that I'm grown now, grown now? (Grown)
Don't you know that I can hold my own?
Boy, you missed the boat
Can't get with me, now I'm grown

About

Genius Annotation

“Grown” is about a girl who liked a boy, and now that she’s moved on, he’s finally noticing her. She doesn’t like that once she lost interest, he gained it, so she’s telling him that now she’s grown and he missed his chance.

When asked what the most meaningful song off the album was, Perrie Edwards disclosed:

I was always that girl in school who could never get the guy and he would always find one of my mates…I would be invisible. But yeah…I love “Grown” ‘cause I love that you get to build on you, get a bit more confident, and you just feel good in yourself.

Genius Answer

This song is all about, like, when you’re at school, or when you’re younger, and you really fancy someone and they want nothing to do with you. They give you no time of day cause you’re spotty and you’re rank, and you haven’t blossomed yet. And then, as soon as you get older, and you grow some boobs, and you’ve blossomed, they want a piece of you, and you’re, like, “You didn’t want it then, you can’t have it now.”
