Style (Taylor’s Version) Lyrics

[Pre-Chorus]
He says, "What you heard is true, but I
Can't stop thinkin' 'bout you," and I
I said, "I've been there too a few times"

[Chorus]
'Cause you got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashin' down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style
You got that long hair, slicked back, white T-shirt
And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt (A tight little skirt)
And when we go crashin' down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style (We never go, we never go), we never go out of style

[Bridge]
Take me home (Ah)
Just take me home (Ah)
Yeah, just take me home (Ah)

Woah, woah, oh (Out of style)

[Chorus]
Oh, 'cause you got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashin' down (And when we go), we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style

Genius Annotation

“Style (Taylor’s Version)” is a timeless rework of Taylor Swift’s iconic track from her 2014 album, “1989.” It was released on October 27, 2023, as part of Taylor’s re-recorded “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” album.

This song was originally written about a love that was always on-off but that always comes back in style. It is wildly rumoured to be about Swifts' well known ex “Harry Styles”.

Much like the original, “Style (Taylor’s Version)” maintains the essence that fans adore. However, it carries subtle tweaks that highlight Taylor’s growth as an artist. Her more seasoned voice and refined musical style infuse the song with an even deeper emotional resonance.

What did Taylor Swift say about "Style (Taylor's Version)"?
Genius Answer

“Style” is a song that I wrote about kind of observing fashion trends and cultural trends and seeing how there are certain things that are constants. You know, you may not wear a little black dress for a while, but you’re always gonna go back to it. No one is going to say, “Oh, red lips were so two years ago.” And I started thinking about that in terms of a feeling. There are certain feelings like that, there are certain people who come in and out of your life sort of like a trend who keeps coming back in style and never phases away.

What have the artists said about the song?
Genius Answer

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Swift broke down the song’s meaning:

I’m pretty sure when we finished this song I knew the record was done. “Shake It Off” and “Style” were the last two songs to be written for 1989. This one has always been my secret favourite hope — “I hope it ends up being a single”, “I hope people love it”. I love how this song sounds the way that feeling felt. I love when the sound of a song matches the feeling that inspired it — This song just reminds me of driving in the middle of the night. I loved comparing these timeless visuals with a feeling that never goes out of style.

This song is about my life and I’ve never revealed who it’s actually about, but the song kind of speaks for itself, and the way that this song sounds and feels, that’s all I need people to know about that story.
