She goes full demon in the music video, starring Christina Ricci.

Some people think Doja Cat has been acting a little too “demonic” lately, and naturally, the button-pushing singer/rapper has decided to have some fun with this idea. She returns today with “Demons,” the third single from her forthcoming album Scarlett, and it’s a cocksure rebuke of those who would paint her as some type of satanist. “Demons” promptly shot to the upper reaches of the Genius Top Songs chart.

Produced by d.a. got that dope, “Demons” is a spooky, clobbering rap track that finds Doja very much on the attack. Here’s how she starts the chorus that opens the song:

How my demons look (How your demons)
Now that my pocket’s full? (Ayy, ayy, ayy, yeah, ayy)
How my demons look (Ayy, yeah)
Now that you bitches shook? (Bitch)

In the first verse, Doja flaunts her wealth and brags about how she recently quit vaping.

I am on to bigger things
I just bought a limousine (A limousine)
You live like me in your dreams (Yes, you do)
I just quit the nicotine (I did)

Later on, she tells some hater or unnamed enemy that they’re unfit to hang with her.

I’m a fuckin’ queen (Queen)
I am expeditiously (See it, bitch)
Are you off a key? (You off a key?)
I would never let you in my V.I.P.

Doja starts the second verse by acknowledging some of the criticism that’s been hurled at her in recent years. Could that “cash cow” line be a reference to her 2018 viral hit “Mooo!”?

I’m a puppet, I’m a sheep, I’m a cash cow
I’m the fastest-growing bitch on all your apps now
You are tired of me ’cause I’m on your ass now
You are mad at me ’cause I am all they slap now

She later references her move toward more hip-hop-oriented tracks on this latest album cycle and insists that those rooting for downfall are bound to be disappointed.

Lots of people that were sleeping say I rap now
Lots of people’s hopes and dreams are finally trashed now
Lots of people say they met me in the past now
I done took the spotlight and made ’em black out

“Demons” arrives with a horror-movie-style music video in which a demonic (no other word, really) Doja wreaks havoc on a suburban home occupied by a mom (played by the great Christina Ricci) and her kids.
