Drake Previews New Music After Announcing His Upcoming Album

One track features him singing in French.

Drake just released his latest mixtape, Dark Lane Demo Tapes, but the Toronto rapper is already looking ahead to his sixth studio album. A few hours after dropping the project, he hopped on Instagram Live to preview several songs.

One track features him singing in French:

This isn’t the first time Drake has learned a foreign language for a song. On Bad Bunny’s 2018 track, “MIA,” he sings entirely in Spanish.

The OVO boss also previewed a Roddy Ricch collaboration previously teased by his frequent collaborator Boi-1da during a Verzuz battle in late March:

Prior to dropping Dark Lane Demo Tapes, Drake previewed several tracks on OVOMark’s Instagram Live that later appeared the project. This indicates that the newly teased tracks could be slated to appear on his upcoming album.

During an appearance on Diddy’s Instagram Live in mid-April, Drake spoke about how the COVID-19 pandemic has given him more time to focus on music:

I’m working on the album, I’ve been working on it for a while now. And like I said, another silver lining is when God does get you to sit down—I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL and I made a great album out of that. Obviously God has us all inside the house right now sitting down. So the amount of focus I’m able to put into this album is probably way different than it would have been if I had to go do the residency in Vegas and be able to go meet up with Justin [Combs, Diddy’s son] in Miami or whatever.

On Thursday night, Drake announced his next album is arriving this summer while confirming the release of Dark Lane Demo Tapes. “My 6th STUDIO ALBUM DROPPING SUMMER 2020!!!” he wrote on Instagram. “Lucky number 6 😈 soon fwd.”
