“I was like, ‘That’s hard, we gotta go that way.’”

Lil Baby’s 2018 breakout hit, “Yes Indeed,” is perhaps best remembered for the final line on Lil Baby’s verse, where he raps, “Wah wah wah, bitch I’m the baby.” While it proved to be a breakout moment for Lil Baby’s career, he wasn’t the one who came up with his famous line. In a new interview with Hot 97’s Nessa, he revealed that Offset freestyled the line while they were in the studio together, and he decided to use it on the song.

“Actually man, Offset was in the studio when Drake sent me the song,” he said. “We was just going back and forth, you know like a lot of times before I go in the booth, you got some bros in the studios, we’ll just rap out loud to each other before you’re gonna go. He was like, ‘Wah wah wah.’ I was like, ‘That’s hard, we gotta go that way.’ I just had to wait for a way to put it in there, and it worked.”

“Yes Indeed” turned out to be a huge moment for Lil Baby. The Wheezy-produced track, which features Drake, peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart earlier this year, helping his Harder Than Ever project move over 70,000 equivalent album units in its first week for a No. 3 debut on the charts. Lil Baby and Offset have previously worked together on songs like “Transporter” and “Hook Up.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Baby named his top 5 favorite rappers, listing Atlanta’s own André 3000 alongside Drake, Yo Gotti, Kevin Gates, and Future. Thus far, Drake is the only rapper on that list who he’s managed to connect with.

Lil Baby’s new album, Street Gossip, is set to drop tonight, with features from 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, Young Thug, and more.
