The Detroit rapper took issue with Snoop saying he could “live without” Em’s catalog.

Eminem had some choice words for Snoop Dogg on his Music to Be Murdered By: Side B track, “Zeus,” and the Doggfather recently offered a response. “Pray I don’t answer that soft a-s sh-t 😂 😂 😂,” he wrote in an Instagram comment discussing the song.

On “Zeus,” Em raps:

And, as far as squashin' beef, I’m used to people knockin' me
But, just not in my camp
And diplomatic as I’m tryna be
Last thing I need is Snoop doggin' me
Man, Dogg, you was like a damn god to me
Nah, not really
I had “dog” backwards
But I’m startin' to think, all these people takin' shots at me
Sh-t, it’s no wonder

This came in response to a July 2020 Breakfast Club interview where Snoop explained why Em wasn’t amongst his Top 10 rappers of all time. During the interview, Snoop said that he could “live without” Em’s music, apparently striking a chord with the Detroit rapper.

In a recent interview with Shade45, Em explained why he took issue with Snoop’s comments:

He was doing an interview with The Breakfast Club. Somehow my name got brought up and he was saying things about, you know, I’m not in his top 10 and everything he said, by the way, it was fine like up to a point. Him saying that I’m not in his top 10, because there’s some rappers from the ‘90s that I can’t f-ck with. You know, him saying Dre made the best version of me, absolutely. Like, why would I have a problem with that? Like, would I be here without Dre. F-ck no I wouldn’t. The rappers he mentioned from the 90s, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap. Like I never said I could f-ck with them. I never said that. You know what I’m saying? So it’s all like, everything was good until it was more like, I think it was more about the tone he was using that caught me off guard. Cause I’m like, ‘where’s this coming from? I just saw you like, what the f-ck?’ You know what I’m saying? Like, it just, it threw me for a loop. Again, I probably could have got past the whole tone and everything, but it was the last statement when he said ‘as far as music I can live without, I can live without that sh-t.’ Now you’re just, now you’re being disrespectful for like, it just caught me off guard. I wasn’t ready for that.

Em and Snoop previously collaborated on 2000s “B-tch Please II,” and both rappers have a long-time affiliation with Dr. Dre.

Eminem recently told Zane Lowe that he didn’t feel as influential as some of his idols. “I know I’ve been around for a minute, but I don’t feel like honestly, in my heart of hearts, I don’t feel like anything I did, anything I’ve done up to this point is more influential than they were to their era,” he said. “To me, I will never mean more than they meant to their era.”
