It’s been three months since 2 Chainz dropped “Girl’s Best Friend,” which serves as the lead single to his fifth studio album, Rap or Go to the League.
He released a video via Twitter, revealing that Lebron James served as the A&R on the project:
The new album features guest appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Lil Wayne, Chance the Rapper and more. It comes as a follow-up to his 4-track EP, The Play Don’t Care Who Makes It, which released in February 2018. A little over a week ago, he made an official announcement previewing the subject matter of the new album:
With the height of racial tensions in America, felt I should do my part in explaining some of the brain washing formulas used in my community , this next album not only touches on those who did succeed thru entertainment but those who didn’t ! Welcome to Rap or Go TO THE LEAGUE !
Def Jam Recordings, via a press release, also stated the meaning behind the title of the album:
[The title] challenges the notion that the only way out of the inner city is either to become a rapper or a ball player […] [the intent is] celebrating black excellence and focusing on the power of education and entrepreneurship.
