Ohio’s Trippie Redd rose to fame thanks to the success of his 2017 single, “Love Scars/You hurt me,” which has since become an integral part of the rapper’s brand. Today, he delivered the latest installment of the series with “Love Scars 3,” a cut off his new album, A Love Letter To You 3. Featuring production by OZ and Rex Kudo, the song once again plays on relationship themes, but offers a different perspective than the first two songs.
On the track, Trippie sings about wanting honesty in a relationship:
Shawty, do not play no games with me
Yeah, that shit is lame to me
Spend every night and every day with me
We gon' be aight just take the pain with me, yeah
Baby stay with me
He offers more love-struck bars on the song’s only verse:
Your love, is a drug, I’d like to try today
Your love, from above, I need it always
You the reason why I’m waking up smiling
I could really give two fucks about a diamond
No matter what, when we together, bae we shining
These starry-eyed lyrics stands somewhat in contrast to the previous “Love Scars” songs. “I made this song so y'all can vibe to it and realize it yourself. Don’t play yourself. Don’t chase no hoes. Don’t chase no bitch. If she don’t want you, she don’t want you. Period,” Trippie previously told Genius about the first “Love Scars.”
Meanwhile, the second installment, “Love Scars Pt. 2/Rack City,” took a cavalier approach to women and sex:
Murder what she wrote
We came through and took her soul
She want that dick then she get boned
Rack city blowing dope, bitch
With “Love Scars 3,” it seems Trippie is ready to open his heart again following the end of his relationship with Ayleks.
