Wild West

Central Cee

About “Wild West”

Wild West is the full mixtape debut from up-and-coming West London artist Central Cee. The mixtape follows a successful 2020 through the release of hit-singles “Day In The Life” and “Loading”.

The title of the mixtape alludes to his home ground of West London, as he spends the entire mixtape narrating through the gritty life that he experienced growing up.

Central Cee dropped the single “Pinging (6 Figures)” on January 16th 2021 alongside with the mixtape announcement. Following a month later, on the 12th of February, he dropped the Valentine’s special single “Commitment Issues”, with the final single “6 for 6” dropping on the 11th of March, a day before the mixtape dropped.

When speaking to COMPLEX, Cench said:

The fact that I’m an independent artist and have no features on the tape is a statement in itself, I think. It says what I want it to say. Knowing that I’ve put my best foot forward and put together the best body of music that I can, I’m not too fussed about how it does commercially, as long as it’s appreciated by the people that have been listening and supporting up to this point.

Building on the signature sound he brandished in 2020 as he started to gain recognition, Cench’s growth as an artist shows within the mixtape. Getting deep into his criminal past on tracks like “Fraud”, showing a more conscious mind on the inequality of West London on tracks like “Gangbiz”, and his showcasing his raw pain ridden story-telling ability on “Ruby”. This project proves Cench is here to stay, he’s just loading.

“Wild West” Q&A

  • Translation

  • How did the mixtape do in the Charts?

The mixtape debuted at Number 2 on the UK Album Charts – an incredible feat given that this is Cench’s first full debut released independently.

Tracks “Day In The Life” and “Pinging (6 Figures)” both landed on the UK Charts at the Number 44 position. His standout single “Loading” and “6 for 6” both landed on the UK Top 20 at Number 19 and Number 16. Whilst “Commitment Issues” was his highest charting single, landing in the UK Top 10 at Number 9.

  • Did Central Cee collaborate with Trapstar?

Yes! Central Cee is a huge fan of the West London clothing label Trapstar London – the font of “Wild West” on the cover art being inspired by Trapstar’s font.

Alongside the release of his debut mixtape, Cench and Trapstar announced a limited time collaboration, releasing Wild West hoodies, sweaters, and t-shirts. The collaboration was a huge success and sold out within a day.

When speaking on his love for Trapstar London, he told COMPLEX during their interview:

It’s a West London ting! From my first ever music video I’ve been wearing Trapstar. The first bit of money I made, I remember going to the store. I’ve been rocking with them for a minute and respect them a lot; Lee is from a couple roads down from me. They’re the only people from my area that I can look at as having come from where I’m from and really made it out the hood and give back. We’ve had some serious conversations and they’ve put me on to game even before the music, and dropped some real gems. They’re inspirational, for real. I respect them a lot.

  • Does the mixtape have any certifications?

Yes! On the 25th of June, Wild West was officially certified as BRIT Certified Silver.

  • How did Central Cee promote the mixtape?

The promotion campaign for Wild West was done by London promotion agency BAYY TV and heavily centred around the colour orange, which makes up the main aesthetic of the project – featuring on the album cover.

In April 2021, the agency released a behind the scenes video of the projects campaign:

Cench kept the theme of orange as he was seen driving around in orange supercars with Wild West branding as well as wanted posters plastered around West London of his face and a “£1,000,000 reward”. He also kept the theme of American frontier and the “wild west era” by roaming around his area of Shepherds Bush & Goldhawk Road, West London on a horse also released a limited copy of this through his Wild West 3D figures as a collectors item, which sold out within the first hour.
