Weekly Annotation Competition: Vol. 2 #25

Hey everyone, @averysperez back again (as always)! Sorry for the delay, hopefully we can get back on a consistent schedule next week though. Welcome back to the Weekly Annotation Competition! Here, you can submit your annotations to be rated by the Genius community and whoever has the highest rating will receive the “Tate of the Week” title and a badge to go with it!

This week, the competition is undergoing some moderate changes, here’s a rundown:

Staff voting

Bluntly, staff voting has been removed from the Weekly Annotation Competition. The removal of staff voting allows for the competition to be posted on time – punctuality is a necessity for a weekly competition.

We hear you loud and clear, and hope this can alleviate some of the stress on the community’s back when results are posted late.

Deviation strikes

Alongside the removal of staff votes, the way deviation strikes are handed out will be changed. Strikes will be applied if a vote unfairly scores an annotation to a discernible degree. For example, scoring one on an annotation that’d undeniably be rated much higher – and vice versa. There is one more case where a vote can be given a deviation strike, that’ll be mentioned later on…

Just like before, if a user votes for their own annotation – regardless of the score they give – it will be factored out of the final results.

Voting

Voting itself now has a very minor change; when giving reasoning for your score, you must write a minimum of 50+ characters. This rule has been implemented to alleviate cases where people are voted poorly without fair, constructive criticism.

Trying to bypass the minimum with the likes of zero-width spaces, or anything alike, will result in a deviation strike. This rule is disregarded if you’re voting for your own ‘tate, though!

Also, as stated in last weeks thread, @matt will be posting the voting link from now on.

Now we’re past that… who won last week?

Here are the final rankings for last week’s competition:

@ibmac264.2
@charityspicer3.8
@matt4.75
@siannve4.25
@tonymontana4.25
@BenRodz – 3
@theheartbreakprince4.6
@mortalengine4

That means this week’s winner is… @matt! Congrats! Here’s your personalized “Tate of the Week” badge:

How does this work?

Today: Submit the best annotation that you have written in the past two weeks. Embed it in a forum post below! Annotation submission will last 24 hours.

Posts containing annotations not created in the past 2 weeks will be deleted from this thread, so check your dates!

Friday and Saturday: Cast your rating on each submission.

Tomorrow, a link to a poll will be posted in the comments where you can go through each annotation submitted to the thread and give it a rating from 1 to 5. If a rating’s justification is unfair or isn’t sufficiently justified, it will be removed from the scorecard.

The poll will be limited to one vote per person and will close on Friday at 11:59 PM, so make sure to cast your vote before then! It also records the date and time of your vote, so any votes submitted after Friday night at 11:59 PM will be automatically disqualified.

The highest scorer will win the week! The winner will be announced at the top of next week’s thread, so you’ll know who won this week when the next thread is posted.

FAQ:

  • What do I win?

The winner with the most wins after four competitions will receive a $10 Amazon gift card, plus a “Tate of the Week” badge created by Genius’ in-house design team with your username on it. If the score is tied after four competitions, Genius staff will choose a winner.

  • What kinds of annotations count?

Accepted line-level annotations, cover art annotations, song bios, album bios, and artist bios on music pages are all viable. Unreviewed annotations, verified annotations, Q&A entries, and annotations on non-music pages do not count. Annotations that are significantly overhauled within the last 2 weeks can also be submitted, as long as they result in at least 70% contribution.

Nope! Anyone can participate. As long as the annotation you submit has been reviewed and accepted, it will be added to the running.

I just created a brand new tate. so if you all have any suggestions at all please let me know.
I know it’s not as good as the dope tates that have been entered especially @tonymontana ’s GOAT tate, but I’ll enter in anyway.
