Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

i think the rhye songs have 3 possible orders / meanings
my first theory is also the most popular: it starts with my fairy king, where rhye is invaded and thrown into chaos. then 7seas of rhye comes in and an invader takes over rhye and brings an end to the kingdom of the fairy king. then, in lily of the valley, rhye slowly gets destroyed and all its magic is lost.
then theres my second and favorite theory. it still starts with fairy king, with the same meaning. BUT then lily of the valley comes in with rhye becoming lawless and in a state of shock. then its 7 seas of rhye where the narrator is god and he brings order to rhye.
now my 3rd and final theory. it starts with 7 seas in which the fairy king is narrator and the song describes his conquest of the land. then in my fairy king, his kingdom is destroyed and in lily of the valley he is over thrown.
these are just my theorys and any one can feel free to contradict me. i think all of these theories describe how freddies fairy tale life is ending and he's realizing the evil of the earth.
The lyrics read like a crossover between the pagan, fantasy world of fairies and dragons and that of religion and rational thinking.
The song paints a picture of a world which, to the modern rational man does not and cannot exist. The tales and beliefs of mythical creatures is put assunder by the progress of man and in the end the ultimate humilation of the king comes from the loss of belief in the fantastic. A no less violent end that that of knives and flame the king's power fades until he is drained of his colour.
Absolutely fantasic! Much of Queen's early work draws upon fantasy themes, and Freddy probably didn't craft a deeper meaning to the lyrics. The true power in his story telling comes from the inspiration evoked by the words and music.
To me this seems to be about man coming along and buggering up the beauty of nature, although it perhaps compares mother nautre to a real woman or person, who has somehow been defiled or similar.

My fairy King was really the starting block to what Freddy wanted to do with Bo Rap. Loaded with harmonies its very beautiful.
This song is truly amazing. Everything about the song is wonderful. Freddie has combined a beautiful melody with absolutely great words. To be honest, this song really makes me picture a magical land where rivers are made from wine so clear. Simply amazing.
ok... back to meanigs on song meanings. what do you think, people? its into bits, not unlike bohemina rhapsody, really. Feddie starts out descibing a sort of eutopian, peaceful world with a good ruler, a king, who "guides the winds" and "can only do right and nothing wron"-- everythings perfect, but then comes the fall, destuction, men to savage in the night that "take away the power from the magic hand and bring about the ruin to the promise land." Freddie cries, "son of heaven, set me free and let me go" from the agony of whats going on..... in the end, after evil has entered and run its destuction on everything, hes left defeated and lifeless, with his color drained and the kind shamed in all his pride. Its a very melencholic and depressive ending... possibly the way he saw the endiong for himself if this was being viewed in a bigger spectrum. the whole thing sounds even biblical-- which isnt out of the ordinary considering the album its on. Freddie wrote songs about jesus such and "mad the swine" and "jesus" and "Liar" is very much dealing with the feelings of repenting sins and then feeling unforgivable. Something to think about, really, if Freddie means something to you.
Hate to break it to you , but Freddie wasn't Christian, he was Zorastian... Also, this, along with Seven Seas of Rhye and Lily of the Valley, is about his childhood fantasy land called Rhye. I believe that this is saying, "I've grown up now, and my land [Rhye] has fallen apart, I cannot stay in it any longer."
