There was a time, looking through myself
Wanting to pretend
If I escaped, I could fill myself
I don't think you can
Been far and wide
But that hole inside
Never really leaves
When I went away, what I really left
Left behind was me

It's telling me
To be on my way home
Million miles away
I can't stay

Each passing day, every passing face
Seems like such a blur
I long to be
Home, silently
Lying next to her
Just to get back, by her side is all
All I need to be
Cause I went away
But what I really left
Left behind was me

I need to be
Getting on my way home
A million miles away
Million miles away
I can't take

lack originality? listen to Jennifer Lost the War and then listen to any song from Conspiracy. two different sounds, yet so closely related. takes originality to create two different sounds to call unique to yourself and then make them so closely the same. takes a whole lot of originality, something those orange county boys obviously have. i think people who say they are loseing their toutch are too closed minded to realize the truth. they are a force to be on earth for quite a while, ever changing every day, creating their sound to call their own.

    My Interpretation

I cannot believe these lyrics have not been transcribed. It is one of The Offspring's most overtly deep songs.

Everyone in their late teens to early twenties thinks that there is a big world out there and in order to define who they are to themselves they have to go and sample it. What Dex realises when he is out there is that the woman he left behind is all he needs to feel himself so makes it his only quest to get back to what he left behind, ie himself personified in her.

This is it. This is the band, this is one of the songs that changed my prespective on the music world forever. It's basically about not knowing who you are or what you about. Trying to find your place in a crazy mixed up world, where everything is so far out of reach (million miles away)

The Spy

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
