He released it after all the hurtful(and untrue) allegations were released by The Sun, and numerous American record companies were cold towards him because of his homosexuality. This was his retaliation towards them. Favourite line "And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away" He's saying that all the petty people will be forgotten while he will be remembered forever and continue his career.

This song reminds me about when i got my life back together after my depression i heard this song and it told me that no matter what people say or do no one will ever be able to knock me down because i will just come back stronger than ever

@rumi sorry, but I don't agree with you ; this is a love song, not a protest song. The character nearly died out of a love break, but he survived, stood up and started living again. In spite of what his former lover did to him, he fell down, but stood up again and keeps on walking ! This song is full of hope, I think.

To me, this song is about that feeling you get when you are treated badly, then you realise that they don't matter because you can still get by. Elton is awesome!!
I love the line "picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind" because it reminds me of how i had to get my life abck together after me and my BF broke up
