Look at me while I look at you
Seeing eye to eye we can never do
You try to tell me what is right
I may not know a lot but I know one thing

If you've got the answer
Then I don't want to know
If you've got the answer
Just keep it your own

I wonder why our world is ablaze
Sometimes I speak aloud to hear what people have to say
I try to have an open mind
But your brain and mouth must not be connected

If you've got the answer
Then I don't want to know
If you've got the answer
Just leave me alone

I would be patient but it takes so long
I don't want all this misinformation
All the words that you say
Lean on me while I lean on you
If we destroy each other
We might save a life or two
A little sun, a little shine
Separates us both by forever and a day

If you've got the answer
Then I don't want to know
If you've got the answer
Just keep it your own

If you've got a vision
Then I don't want to see
If you've got a notion
Don't waste it on me

i think this song is about how some people act like they know everything, and they know what's right, but they really don't know what they're talking about.

This song reminds me of a dickhead at my high school. Total brownnose to teachers, me and all my friends hated him so much.

thats how i relate to the song, if im pissed off at somebody and disagree with them but i think this song has a deeper meaning. i was too young to understand what was going on in the world at the time they wrote this but i think there was a war going on somewhere in the early 1990's and the song is about 2 political figures that disagree and continue killing innocent people in their war. "if we destroy eachother we might save a life or two" this line is what really got me thinking this. if they both die theyll end up saving many peoples lives because they wont be around to kill everyone.

i could be totally wrong but i think this might be what its about.

likequicksand, I think you're right. Could this song be about desert storm? Anyway, life's a battle field. I've taken a lot of crap in the past, and now I refuse to fall in line, I have my own way of thinking that's not your own, if you don't like it then move on.

I agree with Pyropunk. It does sound like it's about the people who think that their way is best, which can often be insensitive. For example, a friend of mine one time came to school bawling, and when I talked to her, she explained (after a while) that her freind, somewhere else in the U.S. got shot by some freak. Some other teenager came up and started preaching to her about god and how her prayers would be for my friend's freind. Sometimes people don't want to hear that; the best thing at some times is what is right before your eyes, and what appeals to complete, earthly logic.

    My Interpretation

Offspring have by their first albums focused on themes. Ignition for instance focus is social interactions, bullying, misfits etc.

Forever and a day - the songs last song is no different.

I think the song is about staying true to your own opinions, and not be led by other people. "Lean on me while I lean on you" is sort of "When the blind follows a blind..."

This song was also written under Offsprings time on Epitaph records, and maybe they were influenced by Brett and Bad Religion, and then the song is about not being blinded by religion. Only Dex knows

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
