This is another amazing song by Sting....

It's about love lost, the unanswered questions, the denial, still wanting and the uncertainty of being single again.

This song reminds me of how hard it is day by day trying to move on from a certain girl. It's like i'm stuck in limbo and i will remain there until another girl can move me the way she did ....and until that day comes, i'll still love her. Isn't true love the best!?

Sting always had a way of accurately summing up just how hard it is...

Sting is saying that he understands the infinite nature of the universe. He understands that we are all souls making their way to realisation. He understands that he may have lived a million different lives with a million different attachments to things and people. Yet out of everyone he still only thinks of her.

By referring to all of this, he's showing that he full well understands the system of karma and rebirth AND is a wise man. By inference he also knows that the only escape from the infinite circle of life and death is through leaving behind all of his worldly attachments.

This is the crucial point of the song. You see, a person can't express love in words. They talk about giving their up possessions, their homes and even their lives. Sting goes right to the depth of this sacrifice, in a beautifully poetic way.

Even with this knowledge that the salvation of his very soul lies beyond his emotional attachments, he still loves her. He's willing to remain in the world and forgo enlightenment "'til you love me".

He references many possibilities and being a spiritual guide in the first few lines And then when he says reborn as fortunes child to judge another's it refers to this point as well as karmic debt or retribution or understanding how karma is used very common when spiritually guiding others

This song is frightening, yet promising.

There is a theory you are reborn into your life with every death, you repeat everything but you can do things differently, like in a video game.

I think he is trying to say that in this life he is over with that girl but he knows they will meet again and he will have another chance with her but of course he won't be aware they were together in previous life.

They have so many issues that they will need another thousand of years and lives before they finally are fit to each other and succeed in loving each other.

He will love her for all that time...

And when it happens that they are together happy and don't split up there will be another death and another retry which will go good/bad.

The song is about two lovers through the ages who live, die and then get reincarted but no matter how often it happens their newly reincarted form always ends up with the other.

Anyone who has felt this would probably agree with me and I would love to hear some feedback, if possible.

This song to me is about loving someone forever. Like that man I once knew with whom nothing worked out, after whom I went through grief and depression, after whom I still feel a scar somewhere deep inside.

Despite all, I will always love him. I cannot explain it. He helped me grow. I will see him in the next life where we will try again.

A song about the endless possibilities of love and for love! I agree with you iNCUBUSGRRLIE, it is beautiful! Sting Rocks! Seeing him in concert, sitting in the floor section, 5th row, center was one of the best nights of my life!

This is a gorgeous song--lyrics, melody--beautifully creative. A little masterpiece. I liked it the first time I heard it.
